Water control valve / upper thermostat on 2012 Altima 2.5
The Altima has a thermostats in this generation. This one is called a water control valve and it is the upper thermostat. See my photo that shows the housing in which it is installed.Overall this is a quality part and it fixed my temp problems. Housing torque spec is 16ft-lb for the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Make sure to install with the vent hole at 12oclock. The lower one if you want to purchase is part number 33941 for the same Gates brand.

Good quality replacement
I bought this thermostat to replace a worn out one on my fiancé’s 2010 Altima. Her service light had been on for several weeks so I had her take it to autozone to get scanned (for free!) and the engine coolant thermostat code came out. They couldn’t determine if it was the upper or lower so I decided we’d go ahead and swap out both. I decided to save some money and not get the OEM ones since they were $22 each. $9 sounded better. In doing the replacement I found out the rubber was very much deteriorated in the upper thermostat, and the other one looked ok, but I still replaced both. Put in the 50/50 coolant and Sure enough the Service engine soon light turned off when we started the car again. Save some money with these thermostats.

Does not fit a 2010 Sentra 2.0
Replaced the thermostat while doing a coolant flush. This part is about 1/16" of an inch smaller than the factory one and does not have a small bypass hole like the factory part. Considering this needs to fit tightly in to work, I did not use this.
