Four years after my purchase and I LOVE IT. One of my best investments for my shop
Exceptional scroll saw. The table size is a nice big size. The 20 inch arm length opening gives you a great amount of space for larger pieces. The blade is beyond easy to change, and still holds with no problems. This saw is also quieter, seems to cut so much smoother than any others I've used. Excellent value for the money. You can also adjust the speed. The design is just right, the base is nice and heavy. Accurate and fast cuts. I have now had this for over 4 years. I absolutely LOVE this scroll saw. I can't think of anything that I don't like about it, I have used it continuously for 4 years now and have had zero issues.

Excellent Scroll Saw
I have been waiting to acquire a decent scroll saw for ten years. Previously, I used a Delta 16" two-speed scroll saw. That saw offered basic scroll saw capabilities; however, it was very inaccurate, with excessive blade side-to-side and front-to-back blade movement. It was **O.K.** but not great for delicate work. The DeWalt is a solid performer, with very little vibration (almost none, actually), very low noise, and a great tension adjuster that allows one to adjust tension while the machine is running. I also like the generous-sized table. The blades are relatively easy to change (it is just a bit of work to load the blade into the bottom blade holder--I just clamp the blade into the top holder, then load it into the bottom holder). The manual is not available at the DeWalt site--I had to visit one of their ServiceNet sites to download an exploded view of the machine. I am still not sure how to adjust the table position in relation to the blade--the side of the blade runs through the hole in the table very close to side of the hole. It would be nice to be able to adjust the blade so that it runs through the center of the hole!!! All-in-all, the machine is a joy to use. I would definitely recommend this scroll saw above any others even close to the price range. July 2008 UPDATE: Still performing very well! The first link of the blower hose did crack where it connects to the spherical connector. I just removed the broken link and microwaved the hose to get it warmed up; it popped right back on. Also, for those who want info on tuneups for this saw, go to this link: [...]

Great Value for the Money and Cheaper Here than Retail Stores
Overall, this is a pretty good scroll saw for the hobbyist and is $200 less than the regular price from Woodcraft, and $125 less than the annual sale they have. This saw has minimal to no vibration, super quiet, and easy to use. The quick-change blade process is very convenient compared to the more expensive Delta scroll saw I was using, and changing the blade speed is a snap with the turn-dial speed selector. The blower hose is easy to adjust and does not get in the way of your work while really pushing your sawdust out of the way fast. Assembly is a snap - the only thing you have to assemble is put in a few screws to attach the table as well as the front guard - that took me all of 4 minutes to put that together. The unit comes with two blades, and you might miss them as they were attached to an unmarked small plastic bag. One tip for when you are doing a blade change- get a small block of wood and set it on the table to hold up the throat of the unit in the "up" position to make sure you are getting the right tension. If you are looking for accessories, I will say the stand is okay and the optional scroll saw light leaves a lot to be desired - read my separate reviews on each.

Amazing Machine
This is my third scroll saw over the years. The first was extremely basic and I considered it to be basically functional. I picked it up at a yard sale and used it for occasional projects. The second was a Craftsman that was passed along to me from my father-in-law who was a great woodworker. I liked it so much that I started looking for patterns and enjoying the doing of the work at least as much as the end products. When I could no longer find parts and was having mechanical problems that I couldn't solve I bought this beautiful Dewalt. It was easy to set up, with little assembly required. After I bolted it to my table and installed the blade I picked up a half finished project, plugged in the machine, and flipped the switch. I am amazed at how quiet, smooth, and still it operates. The blower stays where I put it and effectively keeps the line clear of sawdust. The line doesn't jiggle! Not even a little. It feels like perfection. The only explanation I will have for flaws in my work from now on will be that I didn't do my part to steer this Cadillac while driving at appropriate speeds. I would absolutely recommend this machine to anyone who wants to really enjoy scrolling.

Many reviewers rate it at the top
I spent a lot of time reading professional reviews of the saw as well as user reviews. It always came up near the top or at the top. In any case I do have some issues: Like most scroll saws, it can still be difficult to put in the blades at times. A better design in most scroll saws is needed. Practice definitely required. It does not have a locking feature for the arm when it is moved up to put in the blade or change the wood piece. It does not come with a light. The shaft for the hold down does not always fit properly and and is hard to tighten and loosen. If it is not tightened firmly the hold down constantly moves into your field of vision. Hence it is hard to loosen. The saw action and quality seem to be exceptional with the above in mind. It is solid and cuts well at all speeds. I did have to have the rod connected to the hold down replaced. The company sent me a new one since the machining angle on the original left the hold down jammed into the blade. This was free and done quickly.

This is a gem of a machine. I bought this to replace an older *** saw that bounced all over the table and consistently dropped blades no matter how tight I secured them; the table was very small, making large projects difficult; blade changing was a real pain; it was very noisy... all of these things the Dewalt is not! It's quiet and just hums along as you push the material into its blade. With a bit of practice ( not much), blade change is easy and fast. The table is a large solid steel plate with a deep throat that easily accommodates large projects. Making small tight turns is easy, which was a real problem with my old saw. The tension adjustment is easy and right at hand with the off/on switch, making management of the tool convenient. The air blast tube is long, so you can use it from various directions or positions. Overall, I agree with the many online reviews claiming this unit to be one of the best, if not the best, scroll saw. Construction appears to be solid, well made and tight-fitting all around. It isn't cheap, but its well worth the cost.
