NOW Essential Oils, Cedarwood Oil, 1-Ounce

Cedarwood Essential Oil from NOW Foods - I have bought several things from NOW foods, and I am 100% happy with them as a whole. This cedarwood oil is by far, my favorite brand. I use it every single day. I love the smell of cedarwood. The bottle states that the benefits are stregthening, empowering, and stress relief. It doesn't smell like you're sticking your nose in a cedar chest. It smells like you are taking a walk though a cedar forest. It is strong without being overpowering, or bad-smelling. I put it with a mix of other oils into unscented beard oil for my husband. I think it has a masculin scent on its own. I use it in homemade shampoo and room spray as well. I use it in my laundry detergent. I buy free and clear laundry detergent, and add spearmint oil, tea tree oil, and cedarwood oil. It smells woodsy, minty, and refreshing. It has excellent staying power. When I wash my bedding with it, it stays smelling like this until the next wash. My dog sleeps on my bed with us, so I usually swap sheets at least once a week. I add 15-20 drops to one 75oz jug of laundry detergent. One, one ounce bottle of essential oil will last about two months. None of my family really like the smell of various laundry detergents - most smell flowery or girly. The rain ones smell weird. Adding essential oil lets us make our own smells without making our own detergents - if you do it wrong, you can seriously mess up your washer. I use it in a diffuser too. It keeps the house smelling fresh and woodsy. We are outdoorsy people, so we love anything that smells like the woods.

I love using it in my diffuser at night to unwind or mixing a few drops with carrier oil for a grounding massage blend. It instantly makes my space feel peaceful and balanced. It doesn’t stain or leave residue, and the scent lingers just enough without being too strong. The bottle is easy to use, and a few drops really go a long way. My friend had been telling me about Cedarwood oil for the longest time because I am never able to get good sleep, I toss and turn and I feel like I have hundreds of dreams every night, my mind is severely over active! I have tried so many things over the years from different forms of melatonin, removing devices from my bedroom, going to bed early, trying various sound relaxing therapy’s, white noise, I have made the room very dark and cool and have tried so many other sleep methods to get my mind to shut off during sleep with no success. I finally went with my friends advice and ordered this extremely inexpensive bottle. My friend recommended I put one drop of cedarwood oil behind each ear which I did the first night. I did NOT remember having a single dream that night!! I could not believe it! It was the first time within probably 15-20 years where I felt complete mental relief. I did not think about the next day, my mind had nothing to think about, it was an amazing feeling. A few days later I tried it again and after reading that Cedarwood helps with hair growth, I decided to also put an additional amount around my hairline. Note to self, I probably wont apply that much again because it made me feel sedated the next morning trying to wake up lol. I have figured out how much and how little to use. I also know that it affects me with in about 15-20 minutes, so if I am going to watch any shows then I will wait until they are almost over. I can feel the effects start quickly, my eyelids get very heavy and within a matter of a few minutes I am so tired that I shut everything off and go right into a blissful sleep.

I purchased this to use with some of my homemade soap. Different soap bases, fats, end up smelling a little bit different when essential oils are used. I decided to start with a smaller amount of oil with a small amount of soap. After the soap set, I cut it apart and smelled it. It was very subtle yet very pleasant. I increased the amount of oil for the next batch and it was much more pleasant. It did slightly change the color palate of my soap, but because I make natural soap and use natural soap dyes, I adjusted my colorants to make the soap the color I liked. It was easy to pour, and the cap was welled secured. But it wasn't hard to open and the label is very clear and it is easy to read and I can tell which oil I have when I pick it up. The brown bottle keeps the ultra violet light out from the sun so the oil stays fresher longer. Over all I am pleased with this essential oil and the quality for soap making. Because of the saponification process, some soaps need a little more essential oils. It also arrived in a timely manner and was well packaged. This is a good quality product to use and most people that use essential oils for common uses will like it too, but that is my opinion. But I feel like you can't do wrong with price and quality.

Good product

I have a few different variations of cedarwood oil including Young Living, Himalayan Cedarwood from Eden's Garden, and this one. The smell of this one is my favorite by far. It smells like a campfire without the burning eyes. If you want something that smells more like cedar trees, this is not really the brand you want to go with. I have noticed a definite improvement in my sleep since I started diffusing this oil, and it is now part of my nightly regimen. I start diffusing about an hour or two before I plan go to sleep so the room is permeated with the scent. I usually watch tv or read for about 30 minutes to an hour before I go to bed, and this oil makes me feel very sleepy and relaxed. I fall asleep very easily and can actually make it through the night waking up only once or twice and being able to go right back to sleep. I even had a miraculous full night of sleep without waking up at all. I feel like I may actually have more of those as I continue to use the oil. I like it better when the diffuser stops running before it is time to get up to help prevent grogginess. It's not impossible to get up if the diffuser is still running, it's just more difficult because I am still very relaxed and enjoy the scent so much. I would definitely recommend trying this oil for insomnia. If it doesn't work, you're only out a few dollars as opposed to the more expensive brands.

This product is of adequate potency. I don't have extensive experience using essential oils so I cannot give a detailed diatribe about how this compares with other brands. This product arrived quickly and undamaged. This product smells reminiscent of pencils, yes. I reckon it's because many pencils are made of red cedar, not because this is an inferior product and that "real" cedar oil would not smell like pencils. Moving on to my last area of review, in researching the best possible cedarwood oil, I was enlightened by the interwebs of the endangered status of Cedrus atlantica, the species which many reviewers were disappointed to find did not provide the oil contained in the bottle they received. The oil in the product is that of Juniperus virginiana. Interestingly, I have found at least one other online retailer listing cedarwood essential oil from Cedrus atlantica for sale which also states that the product is from Morocco, and now that I know this, I am curious whether they are so committed to their craft that they have sought authority to cultivate this plant in Morocco for their own use, or if they are illegally sourcing the product, because, you know, endangered species. But no, obviously I think they are falsely advertising Juniperus virginiana oil as Cedrus atlantica but on their site they say they will provide laboratory data upon request such as GC/MS printouts. This is great because I needed more useless things to do with my time lest I be kept awake at night wondering what all's going on with this. Of course, I suppose (and you're probably going to say, "like, duh"), but I suppose it could also be that they are purchasing their product from a supplier who claims it is from Cedrus atlantica from Morocco and no one there has done their homework and caught what must be a misrepresentation on the part of the supplier. Annnnyway.......keeping in mind what I said in paragraph one, I must say, (surprise!) it smells like cedar to me. I think I'm just going to end my review here now actually. It smells like cedar.

I love this cedarwood oil! I dilute it with water and spray it into my closets to combat moth damage to my clothes. I love all the NOW essential oils, and I have many of them. They are always high-quality and they are the only brand of essential oils that I will buy. I have been using them for many years now.

I love this little bottle of Cedarwood. The smell is perfect, not to strong or too weak. Moved into a new place and we seem to have fish moths(silvermoths). Was advised to put some cedarwood oil in some of my cupboards.
