Covering the post-Mughal period to post Independence, it dissects some of the key turning points of history viz. the battles of Plassey and Buxar, the loss of monopoly for the East India Company, the birth of nationalism, Gandhi's return and impact - to name a few. The average reader would be significantly enlightened by the nuanced handling of key pre-independence conflicts like partition, the Poona pact, and Bose's departure to the INA. The precision to be fair also makes this a difficult read as it is laced with cross-references to work by other authors, but this should be a must-read for each and every citizen of India and Pakistan to clear the air.
