love the book it put everything in perspective im not one for reading but this book is something ill go back to over and over again I've been raising pigs for A WHILE now and everything in this book is spot on

This is a must read for layman who know little or nothing about raising pigs but think they want to try. It is thorough, full of technical information but still easy to understand. From selecting a breed to marketing tips, this book has it all.

Look, it's a book about pigs. I wouldn't do much for a big, heck even a middle sized, farmer. For a small hobby farm or backyard enthusiast, it's a great start. Easy to read, easy to follow, well written, with a lack of space filler.Bottom line, good book on pigs.

So this arrived today. Pretty superficial in most aspects. I got the Storey book from the library and found it to be semi informative though the bulk was about breeding and I was looking for a more small scale. I should have went with Van Loon I guess. This touches on all the topics you would like to know about but is pretty thin on any actual information. Most of the stars are for the slight depth on feeding rations though even that was touched ever so slightly. There is a small section about table scraps being important but not really diving into what not to feed the animals from the kitchen. Shelters are mentioned in more depth than Storey's in that they list a few options but again manage to leave out key information for small scale farmers like size. The only size given is the minimum space of 35sqft for a paddock. For a commercial outfit that seems right though cruel. I am putting in a 7x5' hut for my pigs just for snoozing. I think the other mentioned book stated something along the lines of 100 sq ft per pig. The book has a ton of pictures and is a nice looking book but I wish I would have spent a bit more money on a different option.

Very helpful and full of interesting facts. I recommend to anyone who wants to raise piggy's. Oh, the pictures are great
