Older Whovians like myself seek the completion of the classic era can argue daily one what was good rubbish or bad rubbish. We can. But this season did not do any favors for Colin Baker.Setting up an early assertion that the Doctor's testimony might not be valid in the overarching courtroom drama only casts doubt upon Colin Baker in the role.It is also his final season.Only two seasons for him.Still despite the nigh fatal wound to the narrative the season has some true high points.The strange mystery planet in the first part.The Vervoids later on.Might might or might not be certain doom for Peri.The sudden inclusion of Mel, with no origin/arrival sequence; never disliked Mel to be honest, but felt like we never got to know her beyond the TARDIS.Plus a new villain in the Valeyard, tragically never seen again in the series after this season.For nostalgia and for completion's sake, I got it.And it looks good on my shelf and I did enjoy this.Maybe give it another try, or the first try.Just to see that JACKET, so ugly it is beautiful.Love the jacket too.

This is one of the weaker seasons of Doctor Who but it still delivers quite a lot of entertainment.However the packaging of this set leaves a lot to be desired. Due to the cheapness of the inner trays, the discs fall out of their places easily leading to risk of scratching. However, I do like how they slimed the case down for this shorter season.

The Trial of a Time Lord box set well covers perhaps the most tumultuous period in the history of Doctor Who with the arrival of the bombastic-but-captivating Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. Facing failing ratings, a producer who saw himself a fan superstar for keeping the show going, and a BBC controller who despised the series for its low budget production values, DW was shut down for a year and a half after scripts for its 23rd season were already completed, including the return of Michael Gough as the Celestial Toymaker and a pairing of the Sil and the Ice Warriors. What came out in the end was a shortened series with four stories tied together with a trial of the Doctor for violating the laws of time. And while there were some truly great moments, particularly with the second story with Nabal Shaban as the Sil, Brian Blessed as King Ycranos, and the shocking “death” of Peri, the entire story as a whole fell apart with fly-by-night script for the final two episodes (mainly due to the internal rift between script editor Eric Saward and producer John Nathan-Turner) that made very little sense. To follow the whole fiasco up, Colin was unceremoniously fired from the series, eventually to be replaced by Sylvester McCoy. The set well covers the good intentions but failed promise of “Trial “, with tons of archived footage, and no less than three differently-edited versions of the series. I’m eagerly awaiting the next set featuring McCoy in what would be the final series before its return in 2005.

Well packed, timely, arrived in excellent condition...would use again if needed.

The troubled second and final season with Colin Baker, who is absolutely charming as the Doctor, by the way, gets a remaster with this Blu-ray release. However, The real gem is the extended cuts of every episode. Yes, It is still a flawed season with a lot of behind the scenes issues (which includes scrapping the original season at the last minute for this new trial of a time lord storyline) but I feel the extended cuts offer a better look at the original vision of this season, what was originally intended for us to see.For that alone, It's a must purchase.

I can't wait for every season of Classic Who to get a Bluray release.

As an old school fan of Doctor Who I must agree with the Brigadier; "wonder chap: all of them." I have yet to see an actor in the role who didn't bring something forward for me to appreciate. And Colin Baker's 6th Doctor is no exception. Clad in that garish coat and bursting with enthusiasm, wit, bravado and ego he was certainly hard to love. But; I enjoy seeing this Doctor assault the universe. This season, the seminal Trial of a Time Lord, embodies much that was right (and even wrong) with 1980's Doctor Who: from the exuberance to the often strained performances. I highly recommend this box set!

As a long time doctor who fan I decided to pick this one up, I have the dvd set and the PQ on this is a touch of an improvement colors are stronger in some scenes while the parts in the trial a bit soft. The new extras are cool to see everyone but I found them not very informant and more of them all having a good time remembering being in doctor who. If you don;t have this season then the blu-ray is worth picking up.

Another excellect set of classic Who on bluray. Picture looks very good for the 14 part story and the special features are top notch. Awesome . 10 out of 10. Cant wait to get more classic Who on bluray.

Great to own the greatest science fiction TV show there has ever been! Love the extra behind the scenes features, will have to collect them all!

I have been watching the Doctor Who since it first came out 1963. something seems like it is missing in the program. People have to understand also the special effects then were a lot different then now. still seem like there are episodes missing.
