I had previously purchased a unit that was far too large for my 10 gallon tank so I went on a search to find a smaller UV pump and this one fit all the requirements of what I was hoping for. It's perfectly in my tank and it's out of the way and choose up significantly less space than the previous one I had. My concern is that I see UV light spilling out of a small but intentional window on the product. I'm worried that that sliver of light will hurt my fish and I'm not understanding why that's there as opposed to a complete enclosure...

This is actually my 4th Aquatop UV sterilizer. I've had great success with UV sterilizers with freshwater tanks for many years and have found they keep even my crowded cichlid tanks near disease free. When I've skimped and skipped the UV sterilizer, I've always eventually gotten some disease outbreak. These AquaTop are NOT filters in any sense - they are simply submersible UV sterilizers with a built-in pump much like a powerhead. This 7W unit has a thin, coarse sponge sleeve which serves only to protect the UV light from coarse debris in the water - not a filter. I bought in May, but the UV light stopped working end of June, right after the return period expired. Looking at it more carefully, I think I will not buy another AquaTop again - they are really cheaply constructed and even though they are easy to install they take up too much space in the tank. The Aqua hanger UV units, while much more expensive, are much better quality. Another problem with the AquaTop is that the cords are too short, not reaching floor level from an average height tank. Supposedly AquaTop was started by aquarists, but maybe they were smoking something when they designed these things.

I'd been having a bacterial bloom of some sort that would come and go in a Fluval Flex 9. I tried several things to no avail and always wanted a UV filter in my backup arsenal so I looked for some time before finding this one. I needed a small filter because my tanks are 20 gallons and smaller. I was a little concerned about this being too big for the tank but after measuring I knew I could put it in the main compartment though it would take up a decent amount of room. I'd hoped it would fit in the back compartment. THANKFULLY IT DID! There is also plenty of room around it in the compartment. I did have to lower the water line quite a bit not just for the filter but because the pump is a bit powerful. I am 100% happy with this unit. It cleared up the water to absolute crystal clarity in just a day and a half. Definitely recommend.Still going strong as of March 2024!

This filter works really great at keeping the water clear! Worth the money spent!

Update: contacted the manufacturer and sure enough this is missing the cord for the UV filter.My filter just arrived and I am 100% confused. There's an extra cord dangling with two prongs inside and I have no idea where they go! The manual is of no help and I can't find anywhere that says what's supposed to be included in the box which arrived mangled by the way.

I am going to try the unit before sending it back. The unit arrived, no plastic packaging, the cord had apparently been removed from the twist tie with an attempt to fold it back again to secure, it has been cleaned but there is a slight oil sheen indicating large suction cups were attached to the unit, and the owners manual was a little dog-eared.I have an Aquatop product in another tank that is phenomenal, so hopefully I can return and add excellent conments. Admittedly, I am leary.

Llegó quebrado el foco UV, los materiales del filtro se sienten si no muy buenos llegan al estandar de normal, no puedo opinar de su funcionamiento porque lo regresé.
