Pineapple Express (Single-Disc Unrated Edition)

Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg wrote plenty of funny movies This is NOT one of them
Pineapple Express was another product of the partnership of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The two were childhood friends and together they wrote Superbad, Green Hornet, The Watch, This Is The End, The Interview, Sausage Party, and Neighbors 2. Pineapple Express was their second collaboration. Some constants in their scripts were low brow humor, marijuana and man child characters. They got all three of those in this film. This movie has a lot of fans because of that but I always thought it was the worse one the two made. That’s because it’s not funny.Seth Rogen’s character Dale personified almost every part he ever played. He was 25 years old dating an 18 year old high school student and spent all day smoking weed as he delivered subpoenas to people. His partner in crime in the film was James Franco as Saul, Dale’s drug dealer. The story revolves around the two smoking a lot and trying to devise ways to escape a criminal named Ted (Gary Cole) that wants them dead. That’s supposed to provide the comedy. Dale and Saul are high and watching them should be fun, but it’s not.C

Not funny.
Unbelievable characters. Bad acting. Uninteresting unplot. Another stupid dope movie that assumes dopers are stupid. Ugh! Seth Rogan is his usual annoying self. James Franco is actually good.

A Pre-Legalization Stoner Classic
When a film aspires to elite stoner flick status, it faces historic competition. But by leveraging the new and familiar, 2008’s “Pineapple Express” now sits in the Pantheon alongside the fabled weed comedies that carved its path.Seth Rogan and “Superbad” co-writer Evan Goldberg also penned “Pineapple Express,” where we find Rogan as dope fiend and subpoena server Dale Denton. When his stash runs dry, Dale hits up fog-headed Saul Silver (James Franco) to procure his next bag. Saul introduces Dale to Pineapple Express: a marijuana strain as rare as it is potent. Dale somehow gets teed up to serve a subpoena to Saul’s supplier -- one Ted Jones (Gary Cole of "Office Space" ) -- and while sparking up outside his house, Dale witnesses Ted shooting a dude in the head. Dale flees in buffoonish style, leaving a smoldering roach with the olfactory traits Ted knows to be Pineapple Express. An oddball hit man, an Asian drug cartel, and the parents of Dale’s young girlfriend all contribute to the hilarious fingerprint of “Pineapple Express.” This is entry-level coursework for post-legalization stoners wondering what it was like to imbibe pot illegally. - (Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!) WATCHED IT? THEN WATCHLIST: "Stadium Anthems," "Dazed and Confused," "Sausage Party."

A fun movie...yes it is.
Hey folks, these guys are just having fun making a movie about exactly what this is; a stoner movie...I find Pineapple Express far more satisfying than any of the Cheech and Chong movies... But don't let my opinion or disrespect mentioning all these in the same review jade you... if you have been in favor of legalization, or know a few people who harmlessly imbibe then you will "get" most of the jokes...this is a movie, in my opinion that stays harmless simply because it "knows it is a movie"... does that make sense? In other words, it is light-hearted fun because in no way shape or form do you think any of it is real... at all...it's just a goofy story that put all these folks together to have fun creating "stoner" reality...nothing more, nothing less...What is interesting to me, from a media creator perspective, this movie helped firmly establish a lot of comedy performers into the upper tier of comedy entertainment... we see Bobby Lee, Danny McBride, and others... as well as Rosie Perez , Amber Heard... many others... I just think they are all having some fun... it's not a film depicting rocket science. it's a bunch of people having some fun making a movie... and a few possibly getting stoned while doing it? Possibly... James Franco and Seth Rogen remind me of plenty of people I hung out with while in California 2 decades ago...just barely post medical marijuana days... funny how times are changing...yet a movie like this still is a blockbuster...why? jeez... it's just a fun movie...

The Ridiculous Express
OK, I had zero expectations of this one and that probably helped a lot. Because of that attitude, I got a bunch of laughs. There is a lot of ridiculousness. The end it is very violent for a comedy, but somehow, they even infused the violence with some laughs.Overall, I enjoyed it. It was better than I expected. Yet, it didn't reach the level of say, "Tropic Thunder" in brilliance.I wouldn't run out and recommend this to a friend. I think I just happened to see it in the right mood with the right attitude and that made all the difference.

Six stars and most of the scenery gets chewed.
Six stars. There's been many doper films, but this icon is the most deserving of the last few decades. Don't bother me with how this or that was anything but professional or well acted, cuz I'm not listening la la la la..... I've seen it many times, and yet I purchased it. There's the truest review. The film's impact, for me, was of course seriously muted by my own memory providing spoiler after spoiler - that's huge, but the film still had enough heft to grab me and take my mind over for a while. If you've never seen this, probably you've already avoided it, so no sell-job on you from my side, but, as first time viewing a film experiences go, this one is hard to beat.

Fantastic Movie, but this is not the "Unrated" version.
I love this movie to death, and have watched it 100+ times. It's my favorite "background noise" movie. That being said, this is NOT the Unrated version as the title claims. This is the standard rated R version. Which, I mean, it's fine, but many of the missing scenes are among my favorites in the whole movie! I probably would not have bought this if I had realized it wasn't the actual unrated cut.
