You apply with a damp micro cloth, by spraying on the cloth not the surface of the vehicle. Bottle does have a lock on it, which you have to release or if you force the trigger, I feel you could break it. The spray from the bottle is very fine and goes a long way, also because of the damp micro cloth which is used lasts longer. When applying, apply small areas at a time wiping horizontally and vertically and don't let it dry, wipe off with a dry clean micro cloth. If it gets streaky, because of drying, just go back over again and make moist again. Did the car in a very short period of time and the shine is great, also it does seem to hide a lot of the surface scratches, I can't attest to how long it will last because the car does not see bad weather.
