Mantovani's Golden Hits

I once had Montavoni's Golden Hits on an LP that I bought at Goodwill. The record sounded OK but with quite a bit of surface noise. The music was awesome sourced from a high quality stereo master to an original vintage London Records pressing. I don't recall what I did with the record. Maybe tossed it out by mistake. Recently I started looking for for a replacement on vinyl from Amazon only to discover that used vintage vinyl has skyrocketed in price like most everything else the past year. However I did find a used CD version of this album (also on the London record label) from a trusted seller I've bought from many times and it sounds every bit as good as the original LP from the 1960's. I have only one question. Why are the sellers of used music products increased their prices to ridicules levels? The other day I noticed a listing on Amazon for a used CD (possibly very hard to find, I wouldn't know) for over $900.00! Possibly cost around $15.00 new to original purchaser. I just don't get it.

I was introduced to the music of Mantovani by my father way back in the 60's. He owned several albums of Mantovani and continued to get more albums as years went by. This album was also part of the collection on vinyl in those days. I decided to get this one as it had all the wonderful tunes and each one of them extremely pleasing to listen to and to relax with.When I listen to this album I cannot help but think of the time I spent with my father listening and enjoying it his company.If you like to be introduced to Mantovani this is a great album to start with. By no means this is a definitive and the best album of Mantovani but is one of the best from his vast repertoire.I highly recommend this album to anyone who can appreciate wonderful melodies done with a large orchestra. The strings on this album are lush and at the same time very smooth sounding. The recording is also top notch which is the icing on the cake.

It's embarrassing to admit to buying a Mantovani album - not cool - but on a long road trip when you need a great sound to counter the road noise this works great. James Last is better, of course, but you need variety. This works!

Golden Hits is a very special recording. My wife and I heard a broadcast of Mantovani playing More, one of our favorite songs. We both thought it was the best rendition we had ever heard. His scoring replayed the theme using different instruments as lead. The different combination of instruments enhanced the beauty of the song. Unfortunately, we could not find a copy until I stumbled upon this CD on Amazon.This CD, re-mastered in 1996, is quality sound. It is as clear as being in the concert hall with the orchestra. Mantovani scores popular songs to sound like classical orchestration. In my opinion, his use of strings provides a full,robust sound.I highly recommend this CD, it is much better than I expected, and certainly better than the broadcast that led me to this recording.

I inherited my late father-in-law's album collection, mostly traditional classical stuff. My interest was piqued by "Mantovani plays Strauss Waltzes" on an old LP record; judging by the design on the record cover (1950-ish), I'm sure it was produced well before I was born. I figured as good as his Strauss was, his "golden hits" on CD must surely be worthwhile and I wasn't disappointed. I've listened to it on my way to work a few times where I'm not distracted by the kids and I love it. Will probably be buying more Mantovani.

Wow, does this CD bring back memories of a better time ... Mom curled up with a good book, and Dad sitting back in his easy chair, puffing on his pipe, looking up at the ceiling toward some fond recollection of someplace, somewhere, while the reel to reel tape recorder on the table next to him squeaks faintly with each turn. A real trip in the "way back" machine.

My parents had this album on vinyl when I was growing up and I loved the music back then just as much as I love it now. I was so happy to get this album to add to my home collection. Mantovani's orchestra is one of the best, there is something extra special with his strings section too, it's just so heavenly.

If you are strictly in traditional orchestra music- you will like it... maybe because I had different expectations I did not completely enjoy it. Wanted more contemporary sound of great artist.

マントヴァーニといえばこれですね。「シャルメーヌ」「ヴェニスの夏の日」など名曲名演が光ってます。P. Faith の Greatest HitsF. Pourcel の Mood Deluxeと Mantovani のこの３つを持ってれば鬼に金棒。あと、George Melachrino と Helmut Zacharias の50年代、60年代前半のヒット集があれば完璧ですが。Mantovani は他に "Magic", "Cascading Strings" など名盤がたくさんあります。
