Should I Share My Ice Cream? An Elephant and Piggie Book

This was my first Mo Willems book and I have since bought about five more. I'm no children's book writer or professional reviewer or anything, but I've read a LOT of children's books since my child was born. This book has been a hit. Here's what I think are the key aspects of Mo's winning formula.Not too long:This book doesn't take long to read, which is great for little kids short attention spans.Not many words per page:There are not too many words per page, which means that kids can not only sort of figure out how to read it themselves, they can also easily memorize what's going to come up next. Kids love it when they know what's going to happen next!Slapstick comedy:I just asked my 4-year old kid why she likes this book. She said it's because it's so silly. I continued to probe. She then revealed that it's because [SPOILER ALERT] the elephant thinks about sharing his ice cream for so long that it melts and falls and he says, NOOooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! There's a page with the elephant screaming Noooooo, and that's it. My kid counted the 'o's. Comedy. [END SPOILER]A nice message:This is a story about sharing, thinking of your friends feelings (empathy!), and then realizing how nice it is when people share with you. It's great. Parents feel good sharing it with their kids, and kids love it because of the previously mentioned points.Mo Willems is great. Highly recommended!

My toddler is obsessed with this book. which is ironic because in real life he doesn't want to share his ice cream. But I love the message this book gives about sharing and being thoughtful

I was excited to get this book as it was needed for a lesson on friendship for junior church. Easy to read and fun!

My twins are five years old and in 4K. We first heard of books by Mo Willems from school so we decided to check out all of them from our local library (we had quite the stack at one point!). My kids love them so much we are building our collection of all of the Elephant and Piggie books!Should I Share My Ice Cream? is a cute and funny addition to the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems. I don't want to spoil the story so I won't provide any information other than saying Gerald the Elephant has a big decision to make and friendship plays a key factor. As usual, Elephant and Piggie's friendship is fun to see and it sets a great example to kids too.This story has beautiful illustrations like all other Elephant and Piggie books. It is 57 pages long but the overall story is fairly short since each page only has a few words on it. The book is a beautiful hardcover with thick, sturdy paperback pages that will stand up to many, many readings.My kids have also made great progress with reading because of these books! Many pages have short sentences so you can have your kids spell out words and you can point to each word as you read it. These books are geared toward the four to eight year old crowd but there is no reason why younger and older kids wouldn't enjoy them.Overall, you won't be disappointed if you buy this book as well as all of the other Elephant and Piggie books! Our whole family loves them and they are worthwhile purchases. I feel they are great for kids who are learning to read too! Go ahead and buy the book already!

As a veteran kindergarten and first grade teacher with a 34 year career, when I discovered Elephant and Piggie I knew I'd found a treasure. Great combination of phonetic and sight words for tots to beginning readers to fluent readers...the grey word bubbles identify the words Gerald says and the pink bubbles identify Piggie's words. The bolder and larger the print, the better the reading expression. I bought several of each book for my classroom and they are captivating enough to be an independent activity at a learning station all by themselves. It's not a quiet activity, however, as the kids memorize the words quickly and the bold words expressively LOUD!I'm retired now but still ordering each new Elephant and Piggie for my grandchildren ranging in age from 2 to 9 years old. The facial and body expressions (not to mention the emotions) of the characters draws children in like no books I've ever read before. They can't wait for a new release to arrive!Oh, and mustn't forget to mention that the Pigeon is on the back inside cover and MUST be found!

We have recently discovered the elephant and piggie books and we own about half a dozen of them already. My 2 and 3 year old LOVE them but this one is BY FAR their favorite. Every single night, this is the book they chose to read. It all starts with Gerald getting a delicious ice cream but then debates whether or not he should share it with his BFF, Piggie. He goes back and forth but right before he decides to share it, it completely melts into nothing. Piggie appears and saves the day. Great book, great series, great author. Top of the top for toddler books. Point blank and the period.

My five year-old was really resistant to learning to read until she discovered Piggie and Gerald books. They are perfect for her! They are funny, the illustrations are wonderful, and they have a lot of repetition of sight words, so they are great for beginning readers!"Should I Share My Ice Cream" is WONDERFUL! My daughter will show me the funny pictures and read her favorite pages over and over. She loves Gerald's moral dilemma as he wonders if he should share his ice cream and the final irony as Piggie shares with Gerald. Moral dilemmas, irony, humor, great illustrations, and easy sight-word repetition -- what more could you possibly want in a book?

Very nice child book. My 8 years old son loves Piggy and Gerald. Even i like this series.

OMG love all the books..

Gerald zögert. Sein Gewissen sagt ihm, daß er sein Eis teilen sollte. Der Zwiespalt in dem er steckt ist großartig gezeichnet. Gerald widersteht schließlich der Versuchung das Eis selbst zu essen aber es schmilzt ihm davon. Da springt Piggie ein. Ein Hoch aufs Teilen.
