A Perfect Getaway [Blu-ray]

I own this on DVD and prime so I can watch it all over the house. I expected low budget and cliched, predictable B movie schlock but I was so pleasantly surprised. I loved the entire cast, it is extremely witty and clever in every sense of the word, unpredictable, twisty, and great character development. This has a cult following and does not get the ratings or hype it deserves. Can’t wait to see more by this director and writer. There’s a fantastic scene that just elevates the movie for me, elevates two character’s developmental arc, I will just say it’s blue/shades of gray. You’ll know it when you see it. To me that scene is understated and profound, the very first part. Don’t miss this! Everyone I suggest it to loves it and thinks it’s an unspoken gem.

At the beginning of the movie, we are introduced to Cliff and Cydney, newlyweds, who are so sweet on each other that you can go into a sugar overdose. They are in Hawaii, and they get their permit to hike a trail, and on the way, meet Kale and Cleo who are hitchhiking. They were a bit wary, and decide to lie about where they are going. Later they meet again Kale and Cleo, and Kale calls him out about the lies. On the hike, they meet Nick, who is going to a secluded waterfall, and they decide to tag along, and meet Nick’s girlfriend Gina. And they find out there was a terrible murder in Honolulu, and the two killers escaped to the island they are on. They are on a remote part of the island, yet wedded to their phones, expecting to get a signal. This has become a staple of current movies. From then on there are twists and turns and red herrings, and the last 20 minutes or so of the movie really delivers. Otherwise, it would have been a so-so movie.

I watch this movie every few years or so. Steve Zahn is one of my favorite actors. Beautiful scenery, too.

Good movie kept you guessing,who you thought was the killers are not.

If you’ve never seen this film before, do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP!! Then watch it again to see if you can spot any details. Nice addition to my collection. Plus the disc was delivered super fast!!! 5/5 would use again

This is an awesome movie that's even better on the rewatch. Its been a long time since a movie has taken so much attention to detail. (spoilers ahead)The only thing I didn't understand is how he was able to smuggle a pistol with him, but they have been doing it for a long time. Another reviewer mentioned the "bone" thrown where they are talking together in private that throws the audience off even if they are very acute to figure movies out early and who the killers might be. Remember, they are looking for a couple they "want to be". That discussion was based on how crazy they thought the other couple was and he wants to make sure his "wife" is ok with assuming their personalities and has doubts himself. Whenever "cliff" needs to see something clearly, he removes the glasses to see better. There are clues all throughout the movie and rewatching it a few times let's you see the brilliance on how these clues are laid out until we reach the conclusion of their motivation. It's very bold and let's the audience know who the killers are very early in the movie, but relies on how people make first impressions of people to hide everything. Even the scheming and planning of cliff along the way. He is constantly thinking of when, where, how to kill and assume a couples lives, and where to get his fix for a "motivation" to be timed perfectly. They are so into their new lives, they want to know everything about who they are to become. That bone could easily have been him also going through a second thought of the difficulty going from "cliff" to becoming "Nick" and if that identity might get him the wrong attention he couldn't handle. Simply brilliant writing, acting, and production.

Surprisingly good movie with a few great turns

A Perfect Getaway is a nice little thriller. Nothing new, nothing fantastic but utterly watchable. What makes this better than your average low budget thriller is the amount of character development. There's a lot of it so that we can decipher who are the criminals, but of course there is a twist during the third act when it shifts to typical killer thriller...which is where the thrills are actually conceived. Acting was good, Steve Zahn was mediocre but the hero, the legend and the severely underrated Timothy Olyphant saves the film. The location was picturesque, definitely makes me want to go to Hawaii (minus the murdering of course). I think the film has too much character development and dialogue for the first two acts, then for it to shift to thriller straight away was quite disconnected. The dialogue was also self referential, talking about movie twists etc. and to me was a bit out of place. But like I said, nothing fantastic or great but a rather overlooked watchable film.

Many people slate Milla Jovovich off the back of her Resident Evil films, but, if you can look past her kicking zombies' heads in, she proves here that she can turn in a decent performance.`A Perfect Getaway' is one of those thrillers that is best that you don't know too much about before you watch it. If basically follows a young couple on honeymoon in Hawaii, as they try to work out if they're being stalked by a pair of killers. There's little more to the plot than that, so it's not like the film covers any new ground story-wise. But that doesn't mean it's not worth a watch.There are enough twists and turns to keep most thriller-fans happy and the fact that the film has employed the talents of a crop of decent actors (and yes, I'm including Milla in that statement) means that this is definitely head and shoulders above most other thrillers out there.Give it a go.

I was actually looking for another Blu-ray and this was one of Amazon's "suggestions" for similar movies to watch. I'd never heard of it but what a little gem it is...we thoroughly enjoyed it. I won't give anything away, but if you like mystery and suspense, definitely give this one a go. This is what makes looking for films on Amazon such fun, you never quite know what you may find along the way.

The item came really fast, in perfect condition.Everything is as described. The story is great - real classic adventure thriller,picture quality is perfect.There's 2 versions of the film on the disc.100 % entertainment.The price is cheap, but that's hard-to-find title so, don't hesitate - BUY IT NOW!

I had never heard of this movie doing the cinema circuit, and only recognised a couple of the actors but bought this used copy simply based on the reviews here.My husband and I thought it was really entertaining, kept us interested with no boring bits to go a make a coffee too. It kept us guessing till the end too. Would recommend for a night when tv is really not good.
