I got more than I expected.
Its been awhile since I left an Amazon review. I stopped reviewing things because apparently Amazon apparently has some wierd rules for reviewing products. But I felt obligated to make a review for this product, because I was really expecting to get just the protractor.I was surprised to open the package and be bombarded with reading material. Im prior military, so I was just planning on going by my memory and thug it out in the woods if I ever went off trail. The seller even included the declination offset for my area as well, which is fantastic because I was not even gonna bother looking it up myself, just thug it out in the woods. They also included some practice sheets as well, which I dont know when if I will ever get the chance to fill them out because I already have enough homework for school, but when I thug it out in the woods they will definetly come in handy after I get lost.To John Carnes and your +1, I really appreciate the extra effort put into this product. The value for the money makes me highly reccomend this protractor.

Perfect for BLC!
I thought I was just getting a map protractor, but John from Map Tools also sent me a declination reference card for my AO, a bunch of info on map reading, and a sheet to guide you to his website that has even more land nav related material. This will definitely help me brush up on my land-nav skills and I'll definitely be laminating these sheets to throw in my admin pouch for NCO time with my troops. The cuts and lettering in this protractor are way more precise that the issued protractor all soldiers are familiar with, and way easier to read! This purchase is way more value than I was expecting, and I'd highy reccomend this product and seller to all those high speed E4's and E5's that are making their way to BLC soon!

Map Tool
Makes planning a route using map and compass easy…yes some of us do use maps and compasses for various reasons 😉

I almost never write a review.
This is the nicest protractor I have used or seen to date. It’s far more durable than ones I’ve been given in the Marines, and the effort the owners put into providing FREE educational information with the product makes this a must have for all advanced and novice users in land navigation. My favorite feature is that it includes the 1:24,000 map scale, because sometimes you’re in places that only have maps in that scale. I wouldn’t normally be able to accurately plot routes and points when I’ve had to eyeball it and pray with a 1:25,000 protractor that I was issued. The ONLY thing I would want more, is an added ring for plotting in milliradians. Now, that is purely from a military stand point, see that it’s very important to be able to plot in milliradians for fire support planning. All in all, this protractor will permanently live with my land nav kit.

Does a great job as a protractor
If you are a bit "old school" and don't totally trust GPS, or just use a topo map for backup, this tool is perfectly good for what you'll need. The multiple squares are useful for 99% of the topo maps made today. One great trick I learned many years ago from some British friends that I will pass along. Take a piece of string, and pass it through the center hole of the protractor. Tie a knot on the end of the string. Do this on the side of the protractor that faces you as you read the map. Now, when you have found your location, and you are getting the azimuth to where you want to go, you pull the string taunt, and put it on your target location. Read your desired degree by just seeing where the string is located on the protractor. Using bright string helps (I have some neon pink) but pretty much anything will do. Because you only tied a knot in one end, you can remove the string anytime you want.I gave it 4 stars because I personally like the square protractors better, but I think this is just a personal preference. There isn't anything wrong with the round model, and it has some benefits that the square doesn't. Either will do the job, and when you need it you'll be glad you have it.

Great product, even better support
Seller has an entire website devoted to providing educational materials and helping users, and is gracious to provide half a dozen truly valuable add-ons with his products, including a nifty declination diagram based on the zip code of your ordering address and is printed on waterproof paper. Really a fantastic value, will definitely be buying from again and recommending to friends

Works as advertised
I like that it has the 1:24000 scale used on civilian maps in the U.S.
