Not Great for Bolt Action Players
I'm a big fan of the Perry twins, so I bought this kit to fill out my United States collection for Bolt Action. I would not recommend it if any of the following concerns you:-I suspect Perry has named this kit "infantry" because "US Army" requires licensing from the US Department of Defense (Warlord Games must have some kind of deal with them...?). It's improper to label this box generic "infantry" because these models can really only serve as regular US Army soldiers. They don't really pass as Marines or Rangers and they simply cannot pass as Paratroopers without significant conversion work.-This is gonna be a deal-breaker for a lot of people: Warlord Games' models are 28mm 'heroic scale' (big chunky proportions) while Perry Miniatures are 28mm 'true scale' (realistic proportions). For reference, the Tamiya 1/48 stuff is essentially 32mm true scale. If you put the miniatures next to each other, they look way off. On the tabletop, from 3 feet up, they don't look too bad. But the difference in proportions does look jarring close up. Notably, the weapons are all different sizes.-The round bases that are included in the box are 20mm. While Bolt Action generally has flexible basing standards, infantry are *typically* on 25mm bases. I suspect 20mm bases could give you a great advantage or severe disadvantage in Bolt Action, depending on the situation.I think this is one of Perrys' earlier plastic kits...the detail is somewhat shallow and it's hard to clip the models off of the sprues without causing some damage or leaving little chunks of plastic. That being said, this truly is a great value for the money, so if none of the above are red flags, this is a great way to flesh out your forces.
