Hydrosols: The Next Aromatherapy Review: Exactly what I was looking for - This is just the book I was looking for! Very practical and informative. Review: Definitive...a wonderful addition to my library - I purchased this book when it first came out. I thoroughly enjoyed it at that time, and have used it as a reference ever since. What so many do not realize is that different treatments (distillation vs. tincture vs. absolute vs. hydrosol, etc.) of a plant result in often VERY different properties comprising that substance. So finally having some insights into the properties of hydrosols, the water remaining from the distillation of a plant, is/was much needed. No other work like it had been available. And what a revelation about many of them. Most people, even those working with essential oils and their cousins were not aware of what this or that hydrosol might do, let alone how to get their hands on it. Really needed and really wonderful work!

Excellent Book!!
This is a wonderful book. I've made the Itchy spray recipe for my Asthmatic Cat who will only come into the house to eat in the summer. The A/C bothers him for some reason anyway he sleeps in the gazebo but gets lots of bug bites & his skin gets dry also & He has no problem letting me spritz my hands & gently massage him all over with this recipe I have also made the calm dog mist recipe for my Neurotic Goldendoodle whose a big mush & is afraid of everything from balloons to tents & let's not go into fire works & thunderstorms It seems to have a calming effect on him I don't know what I'll do in the winter as What's good for the Dog is not good for the Cat so I'll have to figure out some recipes good for both What a dilemma!!!

Great for beginners and experienced aromatherapists
I like the research into the background of aromatherapy and hydrosols included in this book. There are many monographs with a lot of very helpful information. The explanation of individual chemicals isolated from herbs and used for modern medicine was very insightful. I find myself immersed in this book, making notes in the margins and highlighting all through. Very well-written book!

great resource some things outdated
Great resource with lots of useful information. It was originally released in 2001 so some of the information is a bit outdated. At one point she states that she has only on 1 occasion found a quality lime hydrosol because most citrus essential oils are cold pressed, but if you are making hydrosols for the hydrosol itself, rather than a byproduct of the essential oil industry, it is quite easy as a hydrodistillation rather than a by product. I personally would not be using by products as something medicinal anyway.

Awesome!
Great book on hydrosols. She gives info on uses, safety and shelf life for common hydrosols, which is super helpful. Sometimes the benefits of an essential oil aren't exactly the same as the hydrosols, so this is a must have for anyone looking to formulate with them.

Best Book on the Subject
This book is a extremely thorough, informative, and interesting. It is not a superficial revue of Hydrosols, rather, it is both penetrating and thought provoking. I plan to give it to a friend who owns an international Essential Oil company (dealing largely in fine, organic oils). My friend is a consummate professional who already sells Hydrosols, yet I believe that even he will appreciate and gain from the knowledge in this book. I highly recommend it!

Fabulous book to have!
This is the best collection of information about hydrosols on the market! I make lotions and oils for dogs and cats so learning about hydrosols is critical. The author has easy to understand information about the history and process of making hydrosols. She includes concise information on specific scents and provides recipes for their use. I'm going to use this book on a regular basis. Hydrosols: The Next Aromatherapy was strongly suggested in Kristen Leigh Bell's book, Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals (another great work).

Full of excellent information, as well as lots of ways to use hydrosols. It really is one of THE best books on aromatherapy I have ever read. The only thing you should know is that due to the book being a little older, some of the links in the back no longer work. But a quick google search for Organic Hydrosols soons fixes that! The only thing I didn't like was her section on animals. It was full of the usual "anything less than raw food is poison" preaching that these books tend to favour. There are many ways of feeding and taking care of animals - there is no such thing as a perfect method, you have to find out what works best for you and your pets. Parroting the current popular dogma is hardly cutting edge. That aside, the book is fantastic. Which may be why there aren't any other books available on the subject.
