Very helpful for school kids
I bought this book because we had borrowed it from the library so many times that I figured it would be worth our while to simply have it at home! It has been tremendously helpful to each of our kids as they have taken World History at a local Resource Center for home schoolers.

Linear timeline by continent
While I have a shelf of timeline books and historical atlases in my home, I needed a book that would help my children easily see how events on different continents synchronized. Some of the other timeline books I have list dates for what happened on which continent but they aren't strict timelines. This book has the date on one side and across the columns will be listed anything of significance, so while there may be sections blank on one area of the world at that date, it is easy to see visually how things line up as apposed to our other books where the columns aren't justified by exact date but more by time period. It's a bit difficult to explain but if you are looking for a quick reference book to give general overview at a glance, this is a good choice. I gave it four stars because there was one I liked better with slightly more detail and better graphic design but it was in individual books for each major time period and the cost was prohibitive on that series.

Easy to use
It's a quick reference when I want to check to see what else was going on at the same time of whatever history book I'm reading. It's format is easy. Gives me ideas for what else I might want to read about.

Timelines of World History by Jane Chisholm. I love books from Usborne Publishing, they publish many good picture books, similar to DK books. This book is really dense with human history, starting from the rise of humans and the rise of civilization up until the year 2000. This book also compares different cultures from the same time, such as those in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, allowing you to explore and appreciate their similarities and differences during the same era.
