I've been reading that regular plumber's putty can't be used successfully on plastic. The finished result is excellent, but getting there takes some patience. This stuff is not water-soluble (that's a good thing, when you're done) but it makes application and clean-up a sticky business. Gloves did not help--the line was uneven and grooved. A finger works, but you must wipe away the excess (I used a paper towel, not a sponge) and clean up with mineral spirits.
