I would not hang the Epiphone on this stand or any stand if the fasteners were screwed into nothing but drywall. **Q: Can the mounting plate be rotated so that the single hole is at the top? That would make it more stud-friendly from an engineering standpoint.** A: I don't believe you can place the single hole at the top. The left and right arms are in the down position, then close when they sense the weight of the guitars. Certainly done the job without any issues. So when I needed another one recently for a newer guitar in Son’s bedroom. I was pleased to find they still made them.
