Understanding Jitter and Phase Noise: A Circuits and Systems Perspective

The merit of the book is that it gives a rigorous and precise overview of the concepts underlying jitter and phase noise, which concern almost every electronic system. Such a book was badly needed for this matter is often not well defined and scattered in specialized papers. This turns the book in a basic reference. The availability of MatLab codes moreover gives readers the possibility to experiment, hence understand more deeply the phenomenon.

Second the previous opinion that the author seems to not understand how random process work in an engineering/science setting. For example, in chapter 3 it links jitter via autocorrelation; but its autocorrelation definition is not standard nor formal (see 3.12). To make matters more confusing is the subsequent derivation 3.13.Most of the first part of the texts centers around a few key integrals that comes with almost no intuition. For a book written by someone that claims to champion intuition behind circuit it offers very little. it's a good calculus exercise at best. The second part of the book deals with estimation of the jitter; it's very clear that a different author took over.

Almost all derivations and explanations related to random processes are missed. I am really curious if the authors really understand random processes. For example, the PSD of a cyclostationary process should be treated differently when calculating its PSD, but the authors just skipped that part.
