Easy DIY and What a difference in garage temperature!
3 year update: I never would have guessed, but I've absolutely appreciated what a HUGE difference these insulation panels make in maintaining the temperature in my garage during freezing winter temps as well as 100+ degree summer temps. They consistently keep the garage temps 20 degrees closer to a comfortable 70 degrees than the outside temps, no matter which way the thermometer is reading. I've gotten to where I recommend them yearly to the ppl in my community every time we have an uncomfortable swing in temperature, and some even bother to come back and say "thanks!" ====== After having to use my garbage cans, plexiglass, carboard, and an old sleeping bag to basically tent the wall adjacent to the main water line coming into the house, then a space heater blasting on that drywall to try keep the line thawed during Winter Storm Uri last year, I decided this year that this was happening! Living in the Deep South, DIY garage door insulation kits have been hard to find at big box stores, which is why I haven't done this before. This year I was doing my Black Friday shopping online and this kit came up my search. I compared it to several others, read the reviews, decided that for the sale price, it was absolutely worth a shot. I also bought some heavy duty double-sided tape I like after reading about others' disappointments with the velcro attachments that come with the kit. The installation of this was super simple. I read the instructions, then decided to install it a bit differently because I wanted to maximize the air gap between the garage door and these insulating panels. These panels are about 2" too tall and 1" too wide for my garage door panels, so I folded the excess down, creating a U-shape on the top for extra support for the gap, and an L-shape on the side so I could secure this insulation to the interior side of metal brackets that hold the garage door together. I ended up only using 2 small squares of double sided tape per panel to attach it on opposing diagonals. Now that I know it works well, I'll be going back and securing it in more places to make the garage door look better. It took me about 2 hours because I kept experimenting with the installation to get as much air gap as possible while keeping the insulation securely in place. I'm super pleased with this product, and considering getting some more to insulate the attic ceiling this summer. Today was the first day to really test how these perform. It in the low 30s today when I took this picture of my car's thermometer.

Noticeable Difference in Garage Temp with Insulation Installed
I looked at the published R-values of this product and NASA Tech. They are both broadly listed as R-21. There are better insulating products available usually of the fiberglass batt type but these can be "dirty" and difficult products to install. The NASA Tech originally looked like the best bet but to install it, I would have had to remove the hurricane straps (5 of them), unroll the NASA Tech, marking the holes where the hurricane straps were bolted and reinstall the hurricane straps and bolts. Not a small job. I elected to purchase Reach Barrier becasue of the pre-cut panels. First, one box covers a single car garage door. For my project I needed two boxes for a 7'h X 16'w door. Second, each panel in the Reach Barrier Kit is 24" X 48". There's enough product to do 16, 24" X 24" panels per box Third, not every panel on my garage door (an Amarr Product) is the same size. The outside panels (closest to the roller tracks) are 25" wide, 21" high. The others are all 23"w X 21"h. Each panel had to be trimmed from the stock panels in the kit. I started the project by myself by marking the dimensions with a marker, labeled the L corner and top of each trimmed panel and would trim the stock panels to size using a long straight edge (a level) and box cutter. The panels trim neatly and easily with a box cutter. I switched to one person cutting (my wife) and the other (me) installing it - that saved a lot of getting up and down from one's knees. The first 4 or so panels cut and installed solo were slow going; it took about 10-15 minutes each panel to trim and install it. Going slow like this with one person doing the cutting and installing would take almost 3h to do one half of this project, 6h total. Too long. Get the wife, save my knees! Once we got a system going we did the other 28 panels in about 90 minutes. They advantage of the Reach Barrier product over the NASA tech is that I was able to install the cut panels without removing the hurricane straps. If you look closely at the photos of the completed garage door, you may note that the hurricane straps will actually hold some of the panels in place (there is enough space between the aluminum panels and the hurricane straps to easily work the cut panels under them). I started out using the stickies per the instructions. The problem with that was installing the stickies on the panel, removing the top covering of each of them then trying to slide a panel under a hurricane strap without the panel sticking to them until in place. After screwing up one panel that way I stopped putting the stickies on all four corners and in the middle. Instead I started cutting the panels 1/4 " longer in each dimension. Voi-la. They fit snuggly in place (mostly). If there was a saggy corner, I'd put a sticky under it by rolling the corner back, placing the sticky then unrolling the corner onto the sticky. That was only required on a couple of panels. The design of the door made it possible to jab that 1/4" extra of material in a grove and it stayed in that grove even with the door operating multiple times to test this technique. I imagine that wouldn't work on some door designs with or without Hurricane straps and you'd have to use the sticky is The important thing for DIY'ers is that you can easily install this product successfully even when leaving horizontal hurricane straps on the door. As for performance, I'm impressed so far. My garage door faces west and in the afternoon the door gets blazing hot - likely over 110 degrees. The garage is uninhabitable in the heat of the day with inside garage temps reaching 102 - 103 and it is presently serving as a storage area for heat sensitive things. I'd estimate that the insulation alone drops the ambient temperature inside the garage 8-10 degrees in the heat of the day with full sun on the door. Low 90s is still uncomfortable. My garage is about 450 SqFt. I just installed a 10000 BTU portable room AC that ducts (intake and exhaust) out the garage window. With it set at 80 degrees, it has no problem getting the ambient temp down to just under 80 degrees - comfortable for us. In the heat of the FL sun, the combo of a portable AC and the garage door insulated with the Reach Barrier product makes the garage a useable space. All I need now is a solar shade for the 48" X 48" window that I noted today leaks a lot of radiant heat now that the garage door isn't doing that!.

Easy to install
Great product. Worked well to insulate our garage, as well as keep the rooms above warmer. If you have windows on your garage, the silver material will show though. We didn’t think about that until we had already installed it. We have a 2 car garage and we needed 2 boxes.

Easy installation, noticeable heat reduction
I’ve been wanting to insulate my garage door for some time, but didn’t want to add so much weight as to require adjustment of the springs. Also, I have hurricane braces which I needed to work around. The Reach Barrier was the perfect solution for me. My garage door gets direct sun until noon and adding the insulation has made the garage interior much more tolerable. Double garage, so I ordered two kits. Cutting the panels to size was a breeze; I just used a sharp pair of scissors. My outer panels are all 48”x21”, so I measured and cut one and used it as a pattern to cut 7 more. The inner panels were 43”x21”, so I measured and cut one to include tabs at each end to cover the area behind the vertical frames, and again used it as a pattern for 7 more. (The second photo shows the area my tabs covered). I used the included sticky squares, 6 per panel. I peeled up just a corner of the cover of each square right before putting the insulation in place. I then lifted the insulation just enough to pull the cover fully off each square in turn. The minor creases in the insulation are because the pieces arrive rolled up in the box, but the bubble layer sandwiched between the foils is not compromised.

Great product. Easy installation.
Easy install. Box is enough for 1 garage (single) door. Not enough stickers and based on reviews, I purchased more from the hardware store. Measured and used scissors to cut which was easy. Looks great. Quality seems good also, thickness, not too heavy. I’m in NE Florida. The insulation has made a huge improvement!!!

Great buy!!
Didn't have to cut, just folded edges to fit and used the included sticky squares. I'm in SC where it's been over 100 degrees almost every day and the panels are still in place, sticky squares still holding. While it was fairly easy to install, I don't recommend doing it with your husband, it's like hanging wallpaper together, just don't do it LOL I also purchased a window a/c unit, but after installing this insulation, it doesn't have to work as hard and the garage stays cool. My door has 16 "rectangles/sections", so I ordered 2 boxes, which was just enough. Also reduced the noise level of the door going up/down.

Smaller improvement than I had expected
I just got this stuff today and so far have installed one out of two boxes of this for my double car garage. It's not been a terribly hot day, but it definitely feels like it helps. However, there are multiple videos of someone using a digital infrared thermometer (sort of shaped like a gun that you point at surfaces to measure surface temperature) to compare 'before' and 'after' temperatures of the inside of a garage door after installing some of this stuff. Note that to properly use such a device you have to enter an EMS or emissivity value based on the particular surface that you're aiming at --- and these can be quite different. My garage door is a painted sheet of steel, a sort of semi-gloss white paint on it. I estimate the proper EMS value to adjust by is 0.87. But for the very shiny reflective insulation in this kit, the EMS adjustment should be in the 0.03 to 0.05 range --- very different from the painted metal of my garage door. Without adjusting the EMS for each surface, the comparative numbers shown in those videos isn't something I would put much stock in. When I get some decently hot weather with ideally the sun shining right on my garage door, I'll take some readings and if I remember I'll put the data I get from that as an update to this review. I don't mean to imply anything bad about the product with this comment, just --- FYI about any digital infrared thermometer comparisons that don't mention EMS adjustments. ====================================== Update, July 27th 2025: My infrared digital thermometer 'gun' allows the emmisivity value to go as low as 0.1 but no lower. I was unable to get a consistent reading on the very shiny surface of this insulation with that 'gun', however, and reading about this it appears that one just can't get a reliable reading with something this shiny. I have an "indoor/outdoor" thermometer, where the 'outdoor' part is a wire that terminates in a thermometer sensor. I taped this sensor directly to the uninsulated garage door and then again to an adjacent insulated portion. I'm having trouble getting a true apples-to-apples comparison as wispy clouds move across the sun while I'm allowing the thermometer several minutes to adjust to the current surface, but today it seemed like I got about a 4 degree delta --- much lower than I had been expecting from looking at marketing materials and other user reviews. I will test again tomorrow, hoping for optimal conditions to be really confident, but for now am lowering my rating to 3 stars accordingly. I asked an AI for feedback on this, and it opined that 4 degrees isn't unrealistic given the relatively thin amount of insulation, and that the installation instructions shows taping this directly against the metal, i.e., no air gap in between. It would not be easy to achieve much of an air gap, and I wanted it taped solid (so it wouldn't fall off or sag over time), so I added additional double-sided tape rated for high heat applications. If I had instead got some relatively thin rigid insulation I could perhaps tape spacers in between, and maybe should have tried this for this product too, but I didn't, and having followed the instructions I'm not going to rip it all out and install it again in hopes of a slight improvement (!). If on further testing I can show a reading significantly better than 4 degrees (fahrenheit) I'll update this review again, else --- I suggest that you don't expect a major improvement from this product if installed right against the metal garage surface per the instructions. ===================================================== Final update: I had a clear sunny day today and measured again by taping my sensor directly to each of the surfaces, waiting about 15 minutes each time for the thermometer to adjust. This time I got an 8 degree difference --- 77F outdoors in the shade, 100F on the inside of the garage at a metal door panel not yet insulated, and 92F at an adjacent panel that was insulated. 8 degrees fahrenheit significant, one can definitely feel a temperature delta of that amount, but based on reading manufacturer's marketing info and reading customer reviews and watching review videos it's a disappointing difference. To be clear, I think that the product is fine insofar as the buyer really knows what they're getting and has their expectations tuned to reality. And admittedly the manufacturer isn't responsible for multiple reviews using those 'heat gun' type of infrared thermometers where they don't adjust for emissivity nor factor in the inconsistency of the highly reflective material on the outside. But still, based on what I saw from the sales info, I expected something like twice the temperature reduction (summer conditions) than I actually got.

Backed By Proven Quality
For these panels being light weight, they do pack a heavy punch and perform as described. Some of the panels did require a little trimming, which was easy to do. I did notice a huge difference in the temperature in my garage and in the room above the garage and that street noise is more muffled. It is definitely cooler during these cruel hot summer days. I have no reason to believe that these panels won’t hold up during colder weather. The reflection is not blinding from the lights and gives the garage a new look. However, the only reason that I gave it a 4 star rating, is because of the double sided sticky pads. Some didn’t hold well or stick at all. I still highly recommend these.

One-third of what you need for garage door
Why sell a garage door insullation kit for only part of an average garage door? Does not make sense. Deceptive.

lightweight/easy install
Worked perfectly and easy to cut and install. Was worried about adding too much weight to the garage door with other types of insulation and this lighter version of insulation did the trick

Works great.
Very easy installation. Gives it a clean finish. One thing I will say is I suggest getting more of the stickems or using an adhesive spray when installing. The provided stickems did not do a good enough job keeping the insulation panels in place.
