That guy always keeps you waiting...
Goodsmile and Max Factory have brought us another figure in their Figma line. This time that figure is Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series, this look specifically coming from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty but also well known for being his main look in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. So does Solid Snake deserve a spot in your collection? Let's begin withThe Sculpt:Solid Snake here is sculpted pretty well I'd say. Everything you'd expect to be there is there. I can't complain about the body sculpt. No rather the main subject of controversy with this figure is what's above the body sculpt, which is the face. Depending on who you ask the face sculpt is either really good or awful. I like to think it's really good. While it's certainly not as good as the prototype it still looks like Solid Snake, especially after you rearrange the eyes. But yes, it sadly isn't as good as the prototype which can't be helped. The prototypes are usually better than the real figure. Even with this in mind, it's still recognizably Solid Snake. Now if you said the sculpt on the alternate face was awful, I'd be inclined to agree. Also worth noting is his height. Snake fits into a 6 inch scale. He works well with the Revoltech Raiden I own and the Vulcanlog Venom Snake, both two figures I also recommend. He's a bit too small for western figures such as Marvel Legends but I'm sure you could make it work with the right posing. The Paint:Snake's paint is where a bit weaker than the main sculpt I feel. The black wash across his body looks less like shading more like his suit is a little dirty. It works as that but I don't think it's what they were going for. The paint is also slightly misaligned on the smallest details like some silver parts on his elbows yet like I said that's a really small detail. The face paint is another subject of controversy and under a macro lens yes the paint is a bit off. The stubble just lacks the subtlety of the prototype's stubble. I think it looks fine in-person, though. Finally his suit is a bit of a lighter shade of blue than I was expecting. This is hardly a bad thing since I like the lighter shade of blue for it but others might not.The Articulation:If there's one area this guy won't disappoint anybody it's articulation. He has just about all the standard movement points such as his head, elbows, knees, and ankles along with pull-down hips which allow for more range, an articulated neck, ball jointed wrists which have a lot of range and perhaps my favorite bit is the shoulder articulation. His shoulders are built in a way that allow to you easily get him into two handed poses with either of the guns he comes with. It looks very natural too which is nice. His joints also move smoothly too, yet being used to Revoltechs at this point I almost do miss the cathartic clicking of the ratchet joints they have. Additionally his hair has a hinge in it so he can look up and his bandanna has a ball joint that allows for it to be moved. My only complaint is that his hips and lower torso joint feel loose due to the way they're built. Some Pledge should fix this but it's worth keeping in mind. The Accessories:Solid Snake needs plenty of gear to keep himself from getting spotted and this figure does come with quite a bit. For the price, I was hoping for a bit more however. First of all he comes with 6 pairs of hands and one other. He comes with a pair of fists, a pair of cigarette holding/relaxed hands, a pair of open hands, a pair of gripping hands, a trigger finger hand, a hand for two handed poses with his assault rifle, a pointing hand/trigger discipline hand, and finally a pair of hands that go with a clear acrylic base. Those hands and base are for putting him in evade mode, which means he can hang off your shelf. Be careful with this, though. Do not hang him from too high of a height or at least have a pillow beneath him so he doesn't break if he falls. Of course what would Solid Snake be without guns? He comes with two of them. He comes with a tranquilizer pistol and an assault rifle. Worth noting is that if you got the exclusive edition off of Good Smile's website you also would've gotten his trademark SOCOM. But I didn't do that so I don't have that, which kinda sucks. His pistol also can't be placed in his hip holster but at least they had the sense to not sculpt a gun in there. The assault rifle comes with an effects part that pegs onto it just fine. He also comes with four cigarettes, which you'll need trust me. They are absolutely tiny and it would not surprise me if they all end up lost soon. His faceplate can be removed to give him an angrier teeth clenched one but I think it doesn't look that good. The paint on the teeth is a bit splotchy and the eyes are sculpted misaligned which just doesn't look right. I doubt you'll be using that one ever. Speaking of faces his eyes can be moved around with an eye moving tool. I would be careful with the tool however since it's showing stress marks from simply moving the eyes. At least use it once to straighten his eyes out since he looks so much better that way. A paper craft box is included too which you simply glue together. Snake can't exactly fit all the way in without really squeezing him in but he still looks hilarious in it. Good on them for including such an iconic accessory. Finally he has a standard Figma display stand.Overall:People have mixed feelings on this figure, they either love it or hate it. Despite my problems with the figure I love it nonetheless. I'm a bit biased since Solid Snake is my favorite Snake from the series so I'm glad to have him in figure form. My only real complaints are his loose hips and for the price I wish we got a bit more in the accessorry department. For $70, which is what I paid when including shipping, I feel something more substantial was needed but I'm not sure what. If you're waiting for a better figure, I wouldn't. With the current state of Konami I doubt we'll get another Solid Snake figure in a long time. I would've preferred an MGS1 version personally but I'm glad we got what we got. Whether you want to add him to your Metal Gear or Super Smash Brothers collection I think Snake will fit in just fine.

A figure as solid as Snake
first, to answer a FAQ, the figure it's self is between 6"-7" tall. now on to the review: this figure is highly detailed and has many points of articulation for maximum posability. it has many accessories: an alternate face (seen in the product pics), numerous alt hands, including ones that allow snake to hang from your shelf, 4 smokes which can be placed in specific hands, a silenced pistol (suppressor can't be removed), M4 rifle which can be fitted with a muzzle flair, and snakes signature cardboard box. the main face also has movable eyes (a new feature to me), and yes, you can give snake derp eyes.now to the bad. the holster unfortunately is just there for looks, you can't put the pistol in it. the other problem I have is that the torso joints, at least on mine, are very loose and move around way too much.all in all a great figure, a bit pricey though. recommended for any metal gear fan with money to spare.

BUYERS BEWARE
ITS CRAP, would not recommend. Very loose torso which makes him holding any kind of pose really impossible no matter how much i try and tighten it. His wrist is broken on his shooting hand and holds everything at a weird angle while the ball on his right popped. Overall i wouldnt recommend it even if he was in perfect order because i dont think his paint applications or anything he comes with warrants the price. Will add pictures later.

I like this figure a lot
I like this figure a lot! loads of great accessories, and the ability to hang from ledges is a nice touch. He even has cigarettes, but make sure you don't lose them, they are TINY. I would have preferred a separate hand option that the cig is attached to, rather than having to carefully place the tiny cig in his hand and hope I don't lose it. Also, compared to the ~10 other figma brand figures I have, his joints are pretty lose, especially his torso and waist. He can stand up on his own without a stand, but it's definitely more fiddly than some of my other figures. That said, these are minor squibbles - it's a top notch figure, lots of joints and very flexible, and with excellent color and detail. I wouldn't recommend him as a toy for kids, he's not super durable and has a tony of tiny, easy to lose accessories. But if you're looking for an excellent display piece, this is one of the best Solid Snakes around!

Elf on the Shelf has never been better....
Price is a bit steep for the size, but it's worth it if you're a fan of the series. Got it as a gift, instead of for myself, and I kinda wish I got two now. The faces are pretty well done, even though it looks like snake is wearing eyeliner/eyeshadow, but no harm done, the rest of everything is pretty spot-on. The fact that he's poseable and has extra parts like hands in a grabbing fashion for ledges, optional heads for expressions and gestures for smoking, sneaking and going full-bore automatic with the M4, as well as his signature hiding box have already made for some hilarious and totally epic Elf on the Shelf moments! Great piece of memorabilia if you're a fan of MGS, and while not very big, still stands out in any sort of display. Very cool, all around.

The mail it is small and that is upsetting because I would like to have a larger piece of this Solid Snake ...
I looked over the the internet at various pictures and video reviews. I pondered picking this figure up because I was so unsure of the face and the size of this piece. When I got it I. The mail it is small and that is upsetting because I would like to have a larger piece of this Solid Snake much like the Play Arts Kai figures. But for what it is lacking it makes up with subtle details and accessories. The cigarettes are a nice touch and really bring this figure to life. He has amazing detail and color. I really recommend this peice to ANY Metal Gear fan.

Highly recommend
A fantastic figure! Lots of great articulation, joints are loose enough to wear they can move easily but stuff enough to stay in place. The amount of accessories he comes with are awesome! Detail on the figure is great! Overall, a "solid" figure and definitely worth picking up, try to find a better price though.
