Sam Kieth, More than a Comic Book Artist
I first discovered Kieth's work in 1990 when I picked up a copy of Incredible Hulk #368 (his Bernie Wrightson-esqe style hooked me immediately) and have followed his work ever since. This is a nice collection of his work, which has slowly evolved into abstraction and other interesting styles. If you're only into "comic book art" (or don't like to stare at art that makes you have to think about it), then this isn't the book for you. I myself am looking forward to more collections like this.

For Diehards Only
Very mixed bag of artwork from illustrator Sam Kieth who was best known for 1990's comic book work. The first 18 pages are devoted to an interview with the artist. Pages 20-40 are rough sketches and painting from non-comic book work. These are either too loose/sketchbook quality or too abstract for me. Pages 41-56 are comic-book art including some covers, interior pages, and details of pages. This was the best section of the book but since it's only 15 pages worth of material not enough for me to recommend buying the book. Pages 59-73 covers and interior pages from The Maxx comic book. The pages have a matte surface quality and a lot of the black and white comic book art has a soft focus to them, it feels as if the reproduction is not sharp enough. I was looking forward to this but the content and presentation were lacking. This is not quite up to par as some other artist books out there (Dave Stevens Stories & Covers comes to mind). Devoted fans will probably still want this but for me this is a pass and not recommended.

Articolo leggermente danneggiato e poco interessante
L'albo è arrivato con la copertina danneggiata. Il contenuto non è abbastanza ricco. Non vale 20 euro. Consiglio di essere più chiari nella descrizione per non deludere il cliente.

Decent sampling of Kieth's artwork.
Was unsure how I felt about this as I originally flipped through the book, but found it quite enjoyable. As a art museum exhibition and sampling of his artwork the book came off as a bit drab to me and was trying to elevate itself to something more, just what I am not really sure. I did enjoy the samplings of Kieth's art within the book and had a wide range of artwork including some of his superhero material and Maxx art as well. With the rerelease of the Maxx series coming in November from IDW I believe this was kind of a well timed purchase to whet my appetite to see whether or not I wish to purchase the rerelease of the Maxx comic book.I however found the World's of Sam Kieth Vol. 1 to be a much better book than this one in relation to his artwork, largely in part because it contained more art that I had not seen before.
