The batteries last forever it seems **Q: Will this machine give me a good workout for the arms?** A: Yes. I use one in a hospital sports recovery facility. For cardio this tool allows you to exercise your legs and / or your arms. Just batteries for the monitor. Easy to operate and adjust the settings, even for someone that is disabled or recovering from an injury. My wife used one at her physical theropy for her foot, so i bought her one to use at home. I looked at other brands, but they all require a cord and move at a set pace. The Nustep is all at your pace so she has been able to work her foot without it hurting from being over worked.
