Like other Routerboard products, you use Winbox to log in and manage the unit. Tons of features and can customize to whatever you want. Runs on Level 4 of the Mikrotik license, which is more than what you need for a home router or AP. Constant updates. Always adding new features and fixing bugs. This is by far the best I've seen from router manufacturers. Can be modified for a WISP, or a wifi-bridge. Can be powered from a computer/laptop. I'm currently typing this on a laptop with a USB cable powering the unit. BGP/OSPF/RIP routing protocols, which is great for testing or introducing into a large network environment. No Console port. Not even worth taking off a star. You can use Winbox to connect over MAC address even if you screw something up on layer 3. It is highly dependent on the materials that make up your home, it's layout, the overall coverage area, and competing radios in the area. I have always been successful with a single WiFi radio in a rural home of about 3000 sq ft, but I take a lot of time to position and optimize. **Q: can it works as a load balancer?** A: You can do PBR, so in some way you can have "load balancing". It's just the same RouterOS version that any other MikroTik router has, difference is of course on the HW capabilities and thus the max throughput you can get. Got two so as to extend coverage (works better than trying to blast the wifi signal -- plus you'll have ethernet ports at the remote side). Some tips: Use "ap bridge" wireless mode on the first unit and then "wds slave" on the second unit. "wds slave" has the benefit of tracking the primary unit should the wireless channel change. For wds mode use "dynamic mesh" and select the local lan bridge (default bridge1). Set both up to use the same wireless channel, encryption type / key, and SSID. For stability and security use 20Mhz channel width on both and make sure your default wireless key under "security profiles" tab is set for "WPA2 PSK". If you're unsure about wireless congestion in your area then use the "freq usage" and "scanner" in the wireless menu. Pick the least used channel. You can see how the wireless clients are doing as well as the wds link by going to the registration table in the wireless tab. It's kind of tricky getting all the ethernet ports connected for the lan on the remote side. Under interfaces "Mast Port" is what ties a port into the switch chip. So you'll want to make port 1 "none" and the rest of the ports using "ether1". If you have an internet connection faster than 50Mbits/sec then you might want to look for another solution as the ports on this router are Fast Ethernet (100Mb/sec) and the wireless is 802.11bgn at 2.4Ghz which in some areas is a pretty congested band. For my needs it is great and supposedly Mikrotik is going to be releasing an hap 802.11ac router in the near future.
