Even better when modded slightly for 1/2" x 5" rods
I have modified mine after years of use. I enlarged the ferro rod insert hole to accept a 1/2 " x 5" ferro rod. I modified the screw head with a dremel to make it accept a flat head screw driver and made it wide enough to use the striker to loosen and tighten the screw. Now it takes all my old stocked up 5x12" bunker ferro rods I bought many years ago. Now instead of it being just the BEST fire starter rod its the one and only better than the best! LOL

Hands down the best fire starter I have ever used or seen period ...
Hands down the best fire starter I have ever used or seen period end of story! Can you make fires with the line up of other fire starters we have used for years? Well yes. But can all or any of the age old models we are used to using light fires as easily and quickly as this thing can? Simply put...no. This thing will light any traditional tinders way easier and faster than anything you have ever seen. I like the analogy one of the other customers used on his feedback. He said, "it's like a shotgun of barrel for lighting fires". It really is the best way to describe what it does. It focuses all the super hot sparks in one area. Actually I'm surprised it took this many years for someone to think of this concept? Mainly because it's so simple and logical. Anyway, if your wondering why it's so expensive in comparison to all the traditional systems? Then I guess the best answer is to say wait until you have one in your hand! This thing can truly be called a survival tool. I went from cringing at the cost as I awaited it's arrival to "I'm buying at least one more of these asap just to have it!" If your looking for the ultimate in firestarting incase the "SHTF"! Then look no further ladies and gentlemen!

The Premier Fire Starting tool, by design.
There are a few design features of this starter that make it superior to anything else out there. First, there is a channel in which the steel is aligned as you strike the flint. This makes a HUGE plume of sparks, every time, with no practice. Second, that huge plume of sparks is focused by the end of the tube, and it makes a hot little hell at the opening. Third, you can position that opening right against the place where you intend to ignition to occur, and it is easy to maintain position/contact. I've used the Blast Match, which up until finding the Lightning Strike was my favorite fire making tool, but the whole "punching" process needed made it impractical for lighting things like a MSR Dragon Stove fueled with Kerosene, unless you are patient enough to use the Blast match to light something else, then hold it to the wick. With the Strike Fire, I have no doubt about the ability it offers to ignite stuff, in small places, with awkward angles. I'll probably carry both tools, but this Lightning Strike Fire Starter is a fantastic design.

say like on a cold
This device will be seen as a bit pricey. That's OK until you use it and compare it to other fire starter devices on the market. There are a couple of significant points: you can get a little "stand off" from your kindling. You don't have to put the nose down on a surface and run a scraper over it. The amount of spark exceeds every other striker tool I have picked up. It does "aim" the sparks, you can direct the sparks where you want them. It throws out hot sparks in volume and increase your chances of getting a fire going. This thing can save your life. With that in mind, say like on a cold, miserable day when you crossed a stream, got wet and your core temperature is falling; that price has very little meaning. But the fire does.

Haven’t used this yet
Using this as my last resort for the coming apocalypse. It thing was WAY to expensive to just use it. I’ll update this after the end of the world.

Well done product.
Well, first off, the negative: I ordered a red one, so I can easily spot it in the brush. I recieved a blue colored model. That's the worst thing I can report on this product. A simple color mix up. As for the quality of the product, it is superb. A far superior design to other ferro style fire starters, combined with quality materials, resulting in the best fire starter I've had to date.

Best Survival Gear I have ever bought!
I can not even begin to describe how easy and wonderful this works. I have taught both of my daughters to use and which they got flames on the first try. I know it's pricey, but what would you pay if you were cold or stranded without a way to start a fire. This is the best insurance to have you will never be cold or at a loss of cooking. I have many fire starters which all have their place, but this is by far my favorite and 100% guarantee of warmth,
