Make sure the surface is cleaned with suitable cleaner and allow to dry before mounting the IR receiver. Cable box inside of entertainment center Once the doors close the cable box will be out of sight and out of mind Cable box behind closed doors showing the IR receiver on the TV frame As you can see the the IR receiver is barely noticeable while the cable box is behind closed doors! Competitors ugly and bulky receivers next to ours in the middle Side-by-side comparison to show other brands off-the-shelf IR receivers that every seller lists. We spent thousands to design and to tool our IR receiver to include superior components and material. You will not see another one in the world like it. If you do its ours! The IR3856 IR receiver has a 9 feet long cable with a 3.5mm end plug. The IR receiver has a 38 and a 56kHz receiver module. The receiver head is compact (.53 x 1.12 × .43) 1/2 inch wide, 1 inch long and 1/2 inch tall. We designed the shape, so it won’t be easily noticeable where you mount it. The external receiver allows you operate your cable box remotely to hide your ugly cable box behind a wall mounted TV, inside an enclosed entertainment center or cabinet, a media room or closet (Use any stereo extension cable up to 100 feet with 3.5mm stereo end plugs). INSTALLATION: Simple Plug and Play Remove the receiver cable from the package. Do not remove the twist tie until you have confirmed the IR receiver is working. Insert the 3.5mm end plug into the port on the back of the cable box labeled IR IN or Ext., Ext IN IR. NOTE: Do not plug into any port that is labeled Serial (this is for technician’s use only!) Make sure to forcibly insert the 3.5mm plug so it seats as far as it can into the port. This is extremely critical. If it is not seated properly the receiver will not work. Once you confirm the IR receiver is working you can remove the protective layer from the bottom of the receiver head to expose the adhesive tape and amount anywhere there will be line-of-sight from the remote control. You should be able to point the remote directly to the receiver head without obstruction. Please make sure to wipe the area by rubbing alcohol or other cleaner and allow it to dry so the tape will adhere properly. We suggest mounting on the TV frame, under the frame, or in another location that works for you. i.e. The TV stand is good too. NOTE: The front IR sensor will disable when the receiver is plugged into the IR IN port on the back of all the cable boxes listed except the RNG models. The front IR sensor remains active. Make sure when testing in this case remove the twist tie so can cover the box with a towel or hide it away from the IR receiver head. In short, the cable boxes software will be confused from receiving two signals and will not perform correctly. One from the front IR sensor and the other from the IR receiver head. IMPORTANT!!!!! Cable boxes tend to generate heat so it’s imperative to place the box where there is at least 6 inches of ventilation for the top and sides of the box, and or install a fan designed for use inside of cabinets and enclosures. Review: A good solution for my DIY project - It worked like a charm!! My wife has never liked my old Sony receiver being visible. And when we purchased a new larger TV, which plays audio through the Sony because all TV speakers are junk, the Sony ended up being relocated to a place totally outside the range of the factory remote. But I really needed the remote to work so I could turn down the volume during TV ads. So I searched the Internet for a solution. One issue is that my old Sony receiver employs a 40KHz IR remote, which is less common. Since this unit is designed to work over a range of frequencies, I crossed my fingers and ordered it. I then added a jack to the back of my Sony and wired it in parallel with the internal IR sensor (Sleeve=Gnd, Tip=5VDC, Ring=IR signal). I was please to discover that this IR receiver not only worked with my old [now hacked] Sony receiver, but is more sensitive than the factory solution. So this remote sensor is now located out of human view, and still gets a reliable signal from the Sony remote signals that bounce off the ceiling. The bottom line is that with this unit, a couple dollars for a female jack, and a little soldering, I now have a discreet reliable remote control solution for my stereo & TV entertainment center.
Review: Works Great! - Works great! I refinished an old table to use as a console table and put my cable box out of view inside a drawer. I used this IR extender to mount under the table so my remote could relay the signal. Worked perfectly! The IR extender is small and not even noticable under the table and extends the signal a long way. I can change the channel from around the corner in a different room with no problem. I have Verizon Fios service and this extender plugged right into the cable box and worked with no problems. Would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a use for it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how it works? do I need to buy two? one goea do cable box and the other to the tv?**
A: What is the cable box model number? You only nee one to plug into the IR IN port on the back of the box. The receiver is placed on or near the TV frame

**Q: Will this emitter work with an Xantech connecting block?**
A: It will not work with Xantech. They have a different pin out and the block also requires 12v as ours is 5v. We do offer our IRP repeater kits if interested.

**Q: Will this work with Cisco explorer 8640hdc?**
A: when plugged into the IR port on the Cisco Explorer 8640hdc will the the IR on the front of the 8640 also still work?

**Q: States it works with 9865hdc but is not. is this supposed to?**
A: It should work. Try unplugging the power from the box for 30 seconds while keeping the IR receiver plugged in. The box will reboot.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Updated review... It is not an (Unreliable product, do not waste your money.)
*by A***T on April 3, 2017*

When plugged into my Motorola cable converter box this extender has only limited function. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If I aim my remote control directly at the cable box, response is immediate and accuarate. However, when I aim the remote at the external IR extender the blue light in the extender always show activity when I hit a button on the remote but the cable box only responds to the input from the extender about one time in four tries. Very exasperating. Update. Receievd an immediate reply from Infrared Resources after complaing about this item. After some communications with them to describe detaled symptoms of the malfunction, they determined that the software of my cable converter box was not up to date and that another style of remote IR receiver would work. They promptly sent me a different IR extender adapter (IRP-1U repeater kit) which connected in a different manner. This device works even better than pointing the remote control directly at the cable box! Very courteous customer serverce too.
