Expensive, but worth it.
I had to purchase this to properly use a half-sized convection oven in NYC where most outlets are 110V. The prior transformer I bought indicated it had the capacity to do the same as this one, but the fuse blew out within 1 minute of use and used up all replacement fuses in 3 tries. Returned that product and bought this one and have never needed to replace a single fuse even after 30+ uses so far. Super easy to use. Just be careful lifting this, it's extremely heavy and you don't want to break your back ;)

if you can think outside the box
had a 120 volt generator already. Didnt want to buy another for 240 volts... however wanted to be able to run my well pump to create water pressure for flushing toilets and running the shower in a power outage. connected this to my pump by way of a plug and a cable with bare wires. I attached the bare wires to the pump pressure switch and voila it works. FYI the problem should have been that this produces 240 via one wire (one hot and one neutral) and your 240 pump (in the US) requires 240 in the form of two 120's (two hots and no neutral), however if you understand the flow of electricity youd know that 240 down one of the 'hot wires' to the pump, and the other connected to the neutral creates the same flow as two 120's and thus your machine (the motor in a pump in this case) will work. Only thing is it wont work with a 4 wire connection (like a dryer) because then you have two hot 120's AND a neutral because in the machine it needs 120 for the screen display etc and you still need the 'flow' with 120 so it requires a neutral to work (so one of the 120's supplies the 120 (combined with the neutral) and it uses both of them for the 240 (without a neutral) for the element to create the heat You CANT use this for that set up. Just for a three wire (two hots and a ground/earth) set ups. Note: In the situation where you are creating 240 via two 120's both of the 120's are hot and both are neutral (they swap continuously). Hence no separate neutral wire. I know that doesnt make sense but thats how it works so...

The product is much heavier than described
It was described as "Item Weight 26 Pounds" I weighed the item for myself and it and it was 40lbs. The pictures I've include is how it arrived. It turned on and worked. I was hoping to ship it to my brother in law as a gift but I wanted to make sure everything worked as advertised. Hes has special needs and I like to test products I send to him. Due to the misrepresented weight of the product ill have to return it. Hopefully this review falls within the "guidlines" this was my product experience I believe the inverter weight could make the difference in someone's decision to buy it. I feel it may have been omitted to help the transaction to go through. At first I was angry and focused on the shipping aspect of the product so I wrote a review based on this. The review was rejected because I hadn't shared my product experience. So my product experience is as follows. When I went to test it I immediately noticed the product weight was not as described, the housing was dented and the adapter was crushed.. the damage could be looked past but the weight can not.. The initial review was removed because it didn't fit the review guidelines. Perhaps this is why most of the reviews for this product are sparkling. I took into consideration the reviews before purchasing and I just wanted to share my personal experience. I hope this review is found to be helpful

Update: Rockstone Support is Top-Notch - Unit Replaced at no additional cost
Update [Original review below]: I always look for companies that stand behind their product. One way to do so is excellent customer support. Rockstone has shown that they back their products. First they sent me several spare parts (fuses, fuse holder, circuit breaker, and receptacles) to attempt to repair the unit. This unfortunately didn't yield any results. They have now opted to send me a replacement unit at no additional cost, even though that isn't their usual policy (as I live abroad). Needless to say I am extremely pleased with this level of support and will gladly recommend them any chance I get! Updated my review to 4 stars as a result (not 5 cause the unit still failed unfortunately). Reading some of the other reviews I may have gotten unlucky, but after 2 months of use the 5000 Watt version simply stopped working. I was using it for a 220v AC using about 1000 watts in use, 20% of the rated capacity of this unit and yet it still broke. Checked the fuse, checked the circuit breaker, all of them working and in order, the unit simply does not turn on anymore. As I live abroad and this unit weighs a fair bit I can't return it. Kissing $170 goodbye. I would shop around for a different unit, this one isn't reliable.

Strong built, reliable and powerful unit
This converter is well built, and it drives without any issue any "home" load (i.e. toaster, espresso coffee machines, blenders of any type... ) as well any type of DYT tool (i.e. drills, sanders, etc...). I use it to convert the US mains to the UE standard (110 VAC to 220 VAC): inductive or resistive load, it does the work (despite that one respects the power limit). It comes well packed in a double carton. I choose the 5kW unit which is - as expected - relatively heavy, but when you buy such a powerful unit, you don't expect something you move all the time. As expected, it slightly warms when under load and, as logical consequence, it emits a slight smell (it the internal transformer sealing resin - and it's totally normal - I am an electrical engineer). Nothing too strong, and that's not a defect IMO but be aware. I keep it in my kitchen and it's not an issue for me and my family. I bought also another unit (3kW) which is lighter and shares the same quality and performs equally very well. Definitively a good product.

I like that fact it can do both step up and ...
I bought this for my EU bought baby foot steamer and grinder. I also use my 1800 w Bosch iron with this. Handles it well. Mind humm in there but not too loud. Won't notice it from 5 ft. I like that fact it can do both step up and step down. One problem is that some times it triggers circute beaker to trip not sure why but I found the work around to slowly load the Transformer switch when turning on. Over all I m happy with it. It's almost year and half now I m using it. I would 3000 w capacity.

Reliable, Well Built Equipment
I purchased the Rockstone Power 5000 Watt Heavy Duty Step Up/Down Voltage Transformer Converter for a CNC router table project that I'm building. This unit allows me to power my 110v control system and my 208v VFD simultaneously, which was a huge driver for me selecting this unit (in addition to the 3 year warranty). I'm very pleased with the build quality and performance. I had a little bit of a problem getting my 208 NEMA 5-20 plug to fit the outlet but I was eventually able to get it plugged in and seated properly. If I could change / incorporate one thing into this unit it would be to add inline RFI/EMC filters to help filter out common mode noise that trips my GFI outlet in the garage when I power up my VFD.

addition to a robust solar system
Purchased this in plan for a solar system "add-on" to step-down (or peel-off) some 120 V for greenhouse applications and other exterior functions from a 240 V output inverter. It's surprisingly heavy, and would have liked a less portable ๐ค component, such as a wall mount. But perhaps this offers some repurposing down the line. Technically appears robust, if protected from elements. Have not used yet, so not sure how much heat it kicks off, and presumably why metal boxed. Still would have preferred a wall mount as do not like higher voltages kickin' around as SH's in the funkiest way as you know.
