Perfect to control each radiator the way you want
I live in a 3 bed house and decided that while the kids are off to university to fit these valves to all of our radiators. Now, I'm not technical in the least with this stuff but if I can fit them and setup then definitely anybody can. Initially I only bought a few as they are not cheap but I did wait for deal time before purchasing them. Now the great thing about these is that where ever you fit a valve, you can essentially own everything about that radiator. You can put whatever heat programme you want. After initially buying a few of them, I ended up putting them on every radiator. The fitting is simple, your old valve screws off. This valve comes with 2 fitments, they will then fit straight on to your radiator. Before placing them on the radiator, you will need to insert the 2 AA batteries (supplied) in to them and then once placed (can be vertical or horizontal) you pair it with the Hive app. It's important to note in the app whether is placed vertically or horizonally. Follow the pairing instructions and after a few mins you're good to go. It really is as simple as that and then you can configure that valve till your heart is content. You can even had that radiator switch the boiler on just to heat it (called Heat on Demand) which we have set for just a few radiators in the house since not all of them are being used. I have had them installed for a year now and not had any problems yet.

Pairs and works well with other Hive devices and app.
Cannot fault this trv as it paired quickly and appeared on the Hive app. Actioned it with a Hive motion sensor without problem. In dining room boosts temperature when presence detected and can either let more hot water through if heating is on. There is an option to turn the boiler on if heating is off but that would heat the rest of the house if the Hive Thermostat is satisfied. Despite the Hive Receiver going wrong and not working with the Thermostat, the trv and sensor were still online and working on the app and control the trv state. Unfortunately, calling for heating did not work because the Receiver was down. When a new Receiver was fitted, the trv and motion sensor automatically connected to it. Apart from the cost, I must recommended this device.

They Work
I have Hive heating control so decided to buy a number of these and fit round the house. Idea being that during lockdown I didn't want to heat the whole house while working from home, as only the few rooms I needed. Do they work - yes they do. Fairly easy to set up individual schedules for each room in the house and the heat boost is a useful feature. Battery life is unknown at this point but they are 2 AA batteries per valve so no problem to replace. Ease of install - Following the instructions through the Hive app was simple and all fitted without issue. Little tricky to remove as the collar is hard to grip once installed. Calibration of the valves was a faff as needed to haver the heating on to complete, but once done no issues. Range of Signal - 1 room proved to be a problem and the valve kept on dropping off line. Moved it and the valve works fine so must be the signal. Hopefully a Hive range extender will solve. Overall pleased with them as they do what I need. Only downside is the price as doing multiple rooms the cost soon builds up - saying that I only bought them when on offer, not full price.

Hive Radiator Thermostat Valves
I recently installed the Hive Smart Heating TRVs, and while the setup was a bit fiddly, I managed to get them working fairly quickly. The installation guide was clear and straightforward, so that helped smooth things out, even if there were a few steps involved. Once set up, the TRVs synced up well with my existing Hive thermostat, and the app control is genuinely smart and convenient. It’s great to be able to control individual radiators from my phone, especially for managing the heating in different rooms without needing to adjust everything manually. One thing to note, though: the temperature reading on the TRVs isn’t an exact reflection of the room’s temperature. It’s more of an approximation, which I didn’t realise until after installation. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of if you’re looking for super-precise room control. Overall, they’re pretty solid value for money, and I’d recommend them if you’re after a high-quality smart heating solution with the flexibility to manage zones individually.

DO NOT BUY! Waste of money
If I stop one person buying these then this review will be worth it. I bought these in summer and finally got round to using them properly now the cold weather has come around. I saw the bad reviews before buying these and assumed they were because they didn’t understand the product, they weren’t calibrated etc. but it turns out they were right and that these are absolutely terrible. For one they cost an absolute fortune, I have 8 of these around the house, including a multi zone hive system hooked up to the boiler. I have many issues with these, one is the temperature the TRV thinks it is, I walk into a literal sauna is one room and the Trv is telling me it’s only 12 degrees so it’s calling for more and more heat and costing me a fortune for a room that’s already at 30 degrees. Another issue I have is just that they sometimes decide to work and sometimes don’t, at the time of writing this review I have one of the TRV’s set to 20 degrees, by boiler is on and the room is freezing, it’s been on for around 40 minutes and the radiator hasn’t even got up to temperate yet, the other radiators on the same zone are hot so it’s quite clearly a trv issue. Another major issue is the lag, I have All TRV’s set up to ‘heat on demand’ this essentially means if that’s TRV gets 0.5 degrees below the set temp, it tells the receiver to turn the boiler on, this then turns that particular radiator on, and any other radiators on that zone without TRV’s. However the boiler just doesn’t come on, quick look at the app and you can see the TRV is asking for heat, and the receiver hasn’t picked it up so it’s not turned the boiler on, the room is getting colder and colder in the mean time. I know what you’re thinking, why don’t you ring customer support !? I have.. on many many occasions, I have been hung up on so many times, including asked to wait on hold, then hung on whilst on hold because they can’t or don’t want to help with such an awful product. I managed to get as far as sending some pictures to an email address I was provided, with no response, I’ve also made lots of follow up calls about the email and I have been hung up on, and told many times I would receive a call ‘ in a few hours ‘ and I never do. I’m now around £700 down for the full system, little bit more if you add the installation of the original multi zone. And I have a system that doesn’t work and is costing me an absolute fortune in gas. One last little rang is let’s say as a 1 off it actually goes to plan, I get a little chilly in the living room, I manually turn the TVR up in that room so that I’m saving some gas only having 1 radiator on, it tells the receiver and the boiler turns on, winner right ? No! It uses some kind of battery saving mode that takes around 20 minutes before the radiator actually gets warm, so the boiler has just been burning gas for 20 minutes and the radiator has been given the smallest bit of hot water by the TVR. I might aswell set fire to money, I’d get warm for cheaper. To summarise, this product is riddled in defects, errors, software malfunctions, randomness, and to top this all off. The worst customer support I have even dealt with. Just a bit of background on myself, I’m an engineer, always polite on the phones to customer service, and I know they are set up correctly.

I Had Doubts, But Absolutely No Complaints
Reviews on the Hive TRV are mostly good, but there are some that say they are unreliable or not worth the money. Because of that, I waited 3 months to post this review. All I can say is this. The 4 valves were a 5 minute job to install, with the only tricky one being where access to the radiator valve is slightly restricted, and it needed nimble fingers to get it threaded on efficiently. Otherwise, it's an easy swap for an existing TRV. Setting them up in the Hive app was also a doddle. Connection was almost instant on all 4 valves, despite one being the opposite corner of the house from the router, and tucked in a corner. The longest part of the job was setting up the schedules for each radiator but once done, they have only needed minor adjustments since then. The effect has been really noticeable. If a radiator comes on, and the room reaches temperature quickly, it just goes off again. If we have the fire on in the living room, the radiators in there don't even come on at all. Rather than heat the whole house from early evening, the bedrooms are set to come on much later, rather than pointlessly heating them for hours, with nobody in them. It simply has to be more efficient than every radiator in the house being on at the same time. Is there potential for a saving, given the cost of the valves? If say there has to be. A one time payment, with lower monthly bills, is definitely my preferred way of doing things. As for complaints about the noise, I have to wonder what people are hearing. There is a quiet mechanical whirring, as the valves open and close, but you don't even hear them most of the time. All in all, I can find nothing to suggest the Hive TRV is not a very useful addition to any house.

The curry’s egg
We live in a house with 16 radiators. I purchased 5 of these TRV to test them in our lounge, main bedroom, dining room and office. Setup and calibration was relatively easy and despite some small issues, mainly to do with the app, we were ready to go. One of the things I did at the start was to make sure that the valves were operating smoothly and was expecting a good outcome; lubricating each one as necessary. Sadly we have been disappointed, the TRV controlling the valves open and close very slowly and therefore warm some rooms after 40 minutes of calling for heat and similarly completely different valves close a similar time later. This results in rooms being cold at the start and then being too warm after you no longer need the heat; when the valve finally closes the radiator is full of hot water. Basically they are unpredictable and slow to respond and the TRV which responds quickly to open may take ages to close and vice versa with other valves. I have to say that manual TRV’s and the Hive hub worked pretty good, but with my wife being a home worker, I purchased these TRV to ensure that her office was warm during the day and we could control either on demand or on a scheduled timer to save us having to walk around the house manually turning valves up or down. I don’t see them as a significant enhancement over the hub on its own. We like the heat on demand function, as it is good, particularly if you are away and want to warm a room for when you return. Similarly, if we are going out, we have quick actions to switch everything down to a lower setting. Now onto savings generated. Our bills have gone the other way! It is on that basis that we have decided to set the thermostat controllers to be triggered and cut off at a far lower heat than we initially set and also to set the on time earlier when using the schedule function. To compensate, we ADJUST THE TRV to cease heating earlier, but is very much based on a radiator by radiator basis - the response differs from Hive TRB to Hive TRV. We even switched them to different radiators to determine if it was the radiator valve and it wasn’t. One of the issues with all TRV is that they only operate to respond to temperature, so if your TRV are low to the ground, you have to wait until the temperature is achieved which can make the room very hot. It almost seems that you have to monitor each valve and tailor the individual TRVwhich is time consuming and has cost us dearly. What is amazing is that some TRV take so long to respond, the temperature on the TRV is 4c in temperature over the temeperature we set them to close! With hindsight I wouldn’t bother with this product but in a busy household with lots of rooms we wanted to enhance control from a single control source. The hub is great, the app, particularly the beta app is flaky and these TRV need loads of fine tuning to work well.

1 of my best purchases
What can i say about these , they are excellent i bought four, quick and easy to install when using it manually you cant do that much turn the heat up or down basically , but once you upload the app and pair then the fun starts , you can set the temp for each individual room , time when they come on of off , check the app for the temp in each room, turn them on when your on way home so it is nice and cosy when you get in you can also turn off the thermostat off so no one can muck around with the temp manually .FANTASTIC BUY.
