Dolph Lundgren adds power to the gritty tale of Rebecca, a female fighter who abandons the ring after a brutal tragedy. When her sister Kate begs for help to repay a deadly debt, Rebecca enters the world of illegal underground fighting and resumes the role of ''Bex the Beast.'' While training Kate's team, Rebecca must confront the cruel, dangerous promoter who threatens her sister's life - and that of her frail young daughter.

Bad Title. Good Movie
On paper, this ludicrously titled martial arts actioner resembles a generic early '90s Jean Claude Van Damme vehicle with a simple change of sex - but upon viewing, its a well made effort with a strong lead, ably supported by a great cast and above average production values.Rebecca (a great Amy Johnston) is a former fighter who now works in an animal shelter. Previously known as 'Bex The Beast', she now lives her life in peace - preferring puppies to continuous head bashing. However, when her sister Kate (Cortney Palm) arrives asking for help against an underworld goon whom she owes a whole heap of money, Rebecca is forced to delve back into her past and enter the ring once again… Throw in a subplot featuring the two girls imprisoned father Holt (Dolph Lundgren) and a freaky villain turn from Rey Goyos, who has a novel use for ice cream - this one zips along at a fair clip and although nothing revelatory in terms of screenwriting, does hold the attention somewhat.Director Miguel A. Ferrer and co-writer Anastazja Davis’ screenplay is a by the numbers effort of revenge and redemption, but thankfully the better than expected direction alongside great turns from lead Johnston and cameo friendly support from Lundgren elevate this one past other direct to video auction films of its type. Amy Johnston is a solid actor and holds the attention throughout - her motivation is sketchy (more to do with the lack of backstory) but she makes up for it in physicality on the screen and nuance of character. I’ve not seen her other effort ‘Lady Bloodfight’ but based on this, she could be one to watch.Lionsgate’s Region 1 DVD sports a solid transfer with vibrant audio, yet no extra features. All in all, this is a decent action film that belies its low budget origins with good acting, classy direction and slick cinematography. Its not gonna rock your world like ‘Bloodsport’ or ‘Kickboxer’ but as a late in the game fight flick - it more than certainly delivers the goods. Worth a pop.
