I've had this gate for a while but every time I look at it I get happily satisfied about finding it that I'm compelled to write a review as my gratitude towards the company that designed this ingenious gate. I took many hours to search for a gate online, but didn't know it was so awesome until I actually started using it. The passageway I'd like to block my baby from is 52" wide and there aren't many gates this wide. We were worried that after installing a gate, it would have been a hassle getting through because we use that passageway a lot. But as this is not a spring-loaded gate, it collapses nicely into just one piece of about 20" wide. But not only that, you can swing this 20" piece completely out of the way in either direction because it pivots around the joint. Locking takes about 5 seconds if you have to expand the collapsed pieces, but if they're almost fully expanded to your wall width, then it's just like 2 seconds. Unlocking itself is like half a second, and collapsing is like 3 seconds after you get used to pushing each time after hearing a click (collapsing lock on each piece). As mentioned in other reviews, you do need to get used to pulling up with your fingers while pushing down on the tap with your thumb when locking or unlocking. But it's totally worth the initial muscle learning of a few days. The width has a large range, so that's also good. It's tall and sturdily secured with screws, so I'm not worried about my child accidentally pushing himself out like with a tension gate. There are also many screws along, so if you're like me with a thin plastic baseboard at the wall, I just don't use the bottom screws, but instead tape the bottom to the plastic baseboard, and it's still fine. If you do have a wooden thick baseboard, there are directions in the manual for you to get extra boards to fit the gate. Perhaps the only bad thing is that once collapsed, it's a little bit thick, but for me, that's not a problem at all. So if you just need to lock/unlock the gate a few times a day (like fewer than 10), this is the best gate!! When you're not using it, you won't even notice it's there, which is so awesome!!

I have been using this gate for 8 years now! I use it almost every single Day as it was first used for a baby gate. Now it is used for the dogs. It has held up for 8 years! If I could give it 100 stars I would! This is a well made product witch is rare these days! I would buy this again and recommend this to anyone that needs a large gate. The only issue is pushing it in sometimes is little hard and not like hard can't do! Just need to push it good! If you are in market for a gate this size then this is the one you want! It is easy to open and not hard to push back in. This keeps my 100 pound dog out while he can stand on the top with his paws it's still strong enough!

Functionally this is a great gate. It fits a 58" opening well. It slides open and shut rather than swinging, which means you can slide it to its smallest size and swing it out of the way when you don't need it, and you don't have a bottom bar that you have to step over. It's generally easy to slide open and closed, though it can get stuck on the bottom track at times which is solved by a little tap of your foot. I can open and close it one handed most of the time. It's tall and sturdy so it keeps the dogs on one side and the baby on the other easily, yet its not so tall that my cat can't climb over it (most cats could jump it, but my cat is old and lazy). The hardware provided for installation is lacking. The screws are very short, though there are a lot of screws. Luckily installation is easy. My husband installed it himself in about 20 minutes. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is its form. Its plastic, and looks very plastic, and really isn't anything pretty to look at. But a baby gate is more about function, and in that case this one fits the bill nicely.

Extra wide and tall. Regular baby gates were to short and not wide enough for our hallway. The large dogs can not jump over. It can be a little troublesome to stretch it out fully. I did not mount it, I just rest it in the hallway. It works perfectly for me.

If I wrote this review before I received the item, I would have given this 5 stars, no questions asked. I've been using this exact brand and model of gate in a commercial animal care setting for 20 years, and it's been amazing. There don't really seem to be many competitors for expandable gates of this type that even make a similar product, so I was happy to see i could still buy a replacement. However, after our original gate broke (again after 20 years of very very heavy, daily use) and we ordered this one in, I can't really give it more than 3 stars. We have had this installed for months now, and in daily, more than hourly use during the day; it is VERY difficult to get it to extend and collapse, I assume due to the parts not fitting together as nicely as they should. It has gotten better over time with wear and tear, but if it's still this difficult for us after this much use, I can't imagine a homeowner using this a few times a day and having it be broken in within a couple years. For people with weak hands especially, this must be absolutely infuriating. I usually use one of my feet to open or close it, with much more force than should be needed. Honestly pretty disappointing and did not meet my admittedly high expectations.

This gate works perfectly in our 58" pass through between our living and dining room. It was easy to install, and is easy to open and close (despite what other reviews say.) The hinge and latch hardware is great, very stable with good locking latch. We are not using this near stairs so can't speak to it's use in a situation like that. The one caution is that because it is a diamond mesh pattern our baby can pull up and climb it easier than a gate with vertical bars. We installed it with only about 1" clear flat door jamb surface available. We bought this because it was the only one that fit our wide opening and at this price it's an amazing value!

This gate works perfect for the space we need it in! The only thing we found with it is that it is harder to use on one side than the other. Generally speaking, this isn’t a concern for us as the easier side is the side I’d be on when I need to block off the space but occasionally I’d be needing to close it on the other end and it’s quite difficult to do so. We also removed the lock button on the end as my 3yo can’t open it anyways so it just makes it easier for me to use one handed when needed (which is virtually every time). We love that it can swing out of the way like a door so if you have the space you don’t *need* to compress the gate into one panel. Overall, it’s exactly as described, fit our space perfectly and took minutes to install! Reduced one star just due to the difficulty of latching and compressing the gate.

Although I'm rating this gate at 3 stars I would still recommend it. Honestly its still a good option for the price. So the good: covers a large opening, and so far has held up with no real issues, even with kids bumping into it and pushing it. The bad: It can be tricky to slide open and close; you need to pull and push from the middle so that the top and bottom are moving at the same time (I'm tall, so this is awkward). It is a bit difficult to line up the latch, found myself struggling a bit sometimes.
