Decent light, powerful enough
I wish the lights were independently dimmable, but there's only so much one can expect here. The lights get bright enough for my use case, looking at insect specimens through a dissecting microscope. The light itself is fairly compact, it fits well on my desk behind my scope. Be aware that you will need to pay attention to which light is labeled L and which is R -- I did not see the labels and spent some time trying to fit the wrong gooseneck into the light slot. Overall I like it.

Quality adjustable twin led illuminator lights, useful.
For what I use it for, micro mineral crystal photography with the Canon 65mm MP-E macro lens, this gives steady light and has a sturdy, quality build. Slide-switch adjustable light; (con: simultaneous control, you cannot control each seperately). The base is heavy enough to remain steady, another plus.

It's an OK product, but not great value
If the headline doesn't show a lot of enthusiasm for the AmScope light, you are correct. The best low cost products are OK performers but deliver a lot of value. I think this product is OK (I am not planning to return it), but it is pretty expensive for what it does. I would have preferred brighter lamps, but I couldn't justify the added cost. On the plus side the controls seem to work well and the lamp brightness exceeds my minimum requirement. The base is a bit on the light weight side. On the negative side, I DONT LIKE ALL OF THE TRACKING ADS I HAVE SEEN SINCE I ORDERED THIS ITEM. I must have seen over two hundred pictures of it in just over a week, on every imaginable web site. Often there will be 5 or 6 on the same page. AmScope has probably spent $0.02 on all those ads, but I will think hard before I visit their website again.

improvement
I have been doing rework for years. with time, we switched from 0805 to 0603, to 0402 t0 0201 , now I am working with 01005. I have boom microscope that magnifes up to x45 , x 90 if you change the eyepieces from x10 to x20. I never used x20 because the image is too dimm and the microscope head is too low for soldering. These are the 2 main problems with my microscope. Originally it came with fluorescent tube iluminator ring. It was ok but I replaced it with LED ring. LED ring is much brighter than fluorescent but still gets in the way of soldering iron. Still at the maximum magnification the image gets dimm. I replaced LED ring with the gooseneck iluminator today. 2 observations: 1. the old LED ring created wide diffused field of light. the goosenecks create 2 very intense spotlights. when directed at the same spot from 2 angles the image is bright, even at the max. magnification, and no shadows. 2. I used zip ties to tie the the goosenecks to the microscope support structure behind the microscope head. I also tied the tubes to the microscope boom higher up. That makes the setup very stable - once you bend the tubes to the right position, it stays there. Othervise they are easy to knock around. That resulted in much more room for manuvering the soldering iron. I showed the illuminator to other people in the lab. They liked it and most likely will buy it. Money well spent.

Nice lighting output
Gives off high intensity light. No heat because it's LED based. One issue I had was when the unit was turned off, the lights would flash once in a while. After I disassembled the device, I saw that the manufacturer wired the switch incorrectly. They had the neutral going to the switch instead of the hot wire from the 120V line. After wiring it correctly, the flashing stopped as predicted.

2 strikes out of three: DOA.
I wanted to like this lighting unit. I have just returned the second unit. Maybe the third time will be the charm. Description: The base is a heavy and solid transformer with an analog rheostat dimmer switch. This part feels well made. The goose necks attach to it with a screw-ring somewhat reminiscent of the old coaxial cable attachments of yesteryear. The LEDs in the ends with a focus lens produce a bright light if they positioned very close to the specimen. The light is kind of dim unless you maneuver the light sources very close. The light has more blue in it than most. this is probably an attempt to make the light appear brighter than it is (blue is a higher frequency... i.e., higher energy... tricks the mind to believe brightness...) our first light unit arrived with one goose neck dimmer than the other. we were going to use it for a technician scanning process by if it far enough from the subject to illuminate a wide depth of field, it was too dim for details. So we decided to try it for more detailed work, at another microscope... which required the lights to be close to the subject--which it seems like it should be able to do with the flexible goose necks. However, in the very first minutes of use, one goose neck broke off from the base... wires and everything (probably why the one was dimmer than the other). we sent it back. Today we received the replacement: thanks to Amazon.com for for your speedy exchange policy! (we just sent out the old one today) Sadly the threads of one screw-ring on a goose neck were immobilized so it could not be assembled and tested. We ordered a replacement today... if the third one is DOA, we give up on this product. I will post an update when it comes in... and detail our use of the product. IF you are curious and it is > 1 week since i post this, then request an update to remind me... i am glad to help...

Good price and very sturdy!
If you need a light source for working on small objects or for illumination for a reflecting microscope, you need this. I purchased this for work with both AmScope 20X to 80X Binocular Stereo Microscope for additional illuminated and also to use for other fine work that I do that needs illumination. I recently purchased a biological microscope from Amazon that had plenty of transmitted light but no reflective light. This is an LED light with plenty of power and has adjustable brightness. Would recommend this to anyone needing to use reflective light in their work. The price is well worth it and I was surprised at the heavy weight and sturdy build of the unit.

an okay microscope light
One of the best available, but with plenty of room left for improvement. The LEDs are not binned, meaning one might be blue, and the other white, as I experienced. A cyanoacetate based glue product is used to secure ends of the flexible conduit, and not necessarily applied with the best care--some of it even made assembly difficult by seizing up one of the nut-rings. I also noticed a bulge in the cord from where the wire lock-up was not correctly applied. That said, the unit is actually an 8W LED lamp, with high quality optics to focus the light precisely, and the linear potentiometer works very smoothly without flicker. In the end, this is the most important function. I'd buy one again, but also hope the manufacturer is somewhat less careless in executing the product's design. If put together cleanly, this has the potential to be one of the finest lights one could buy.

Led light
I use this primarily for soldering using a microscope. Using this light it helps eliminate glare and it is very bright for our spotlights. There are many similar lights like this on Ali and other places. On YouTube 8-bit Canada. There are a few other people that sell this from other electronic replayer places on YouTube. Northridge sells one very similar and people really like them for the antique glare
