An essential tool for my workbench
I'm not sure how I got by before getting this - it's quickly become an essential tool for my workbench! It is superior to traditional wood rasps in my honest opinion and cuts and shapes wood more cleanly. It's a bit more work to clean it after use than a traditional rasp but it's nothing an air gun can't handle and the results are well worth the minor inconvenience.

Turn solid wood into dust in seconds!!! IT'S JAPANESE MAGIC!!!
I would like to start by saying that I have never heard of, nor seen, anything like this before in my life. That is before I started watching Ben Crowe on YouTube. I have worked as a woodworker, metalworker, and other trades so I am not new to tools or forming material. This thing, and yes it is a thing, is amazing! If you work wood in any way that requires you to remove material to make curves, the kind that a saw is not going to help with. The kind that every woodworker dreads because it is going to take grinding away with a rasp or flap wheel, for hours, or what can seem like days! I bought this because A) it was cheap and B) I saw someone on YouTube use it and say it worked great. I have owned this for about a month, and I will defend it with reckless abandon! What would take a couple hours with a rasp, takes a few minutes for this to finish. Plus in addition to being able to make A LOT of sawdust VERY quickly, it has two sides, one is course and one is fine. The course will hog out wood QUICK, please pay attention it will go beyond where you wanted to stop before you realize it, and the other side is fine to smooth out the wood and make finishing a breeze. So, basically, BUY THE DAMN THING! You will not regret it, nor will you regert it! You may even hang it on a plaque on the wall.

Top Quality Tool @ Affordable Price!
If you're scrolling through the reviews to make a decision on this Shinto Rasp... I would highly recommend you to just buy it, you won't be disappointed. It's built durable , and works great. I use it to hang my restored axes. It's incredibly sharp, and allows me to shave off enough material with ease for a precision fit. Just like the other reviews, it's definitely a tool every wood worker should have. It's great even for beginners just doing a DIY project. The Shinto Rasp is great for all kinds of projects, and I definitely would recommend it to anyone! Hope this helps!

Quality rasp-saw file
Item received was as described. Solid construction and seems to be good tool. One side is aggressive and the other has finer grit. Open design keeps the tool clean from wood filings. Five stars would be possible is first impressions are backed by longevity.

Surprisingly effective!
These work so well that I had to start wearing work gloves after accidentally rasping my finger. I find the tool fairly easy to control, and it takes off a lot more than sandpaper. I highly recommend that you try one of these if you work with wood.

Should have had one of these years ago
If you have a wood rasping need this is a must-have tool. It is nothing short of amazing. The rough side removes wood unbelievably fast to give you the desired shape. The fine side quickly gets you to the point where 120 grit sandpaper is a good starting point for finish sanding. It is inexpensive, and should last for a long time. Highly recommend.

Just Plain Awesome!
This is the funnest tool I've used in a while. I got a bunch of hickory from tree that we took down a few years ago and I've been using this on a few different projects. Course side is super aggressive and fine side is much easier to be careful with removing too much material. So far I've used it on an electric ukulele neck, some knife scales, and shaping the top of a lap steel guitar. It cuts through hard hickory like butter. Too much pressure or too steep an angle will cause more noticeable scratches. It takes a little practice to find the right groove.
