This outboard lock is a great buy.
I have owned several of these masterlock units for years. For the money, they are the best. They go onto the engine very easily. Hey, if someone wants your outboard, they can get it. Stories abound about thieves who even cut transoms with chainsaws in order to get at the engines. Just put a good lock on, have insurance, and enjoy life!

Good Value
Sure rattles a bit when moving, but I still leave it on since I don't want to take on off. GREAT deterant for opportunity crime, but a pro in a marina etc, w time will get your motor. I always squirt a bit of WD40 in lock and no issue with Master lock. I use it on my Tohatsu 20Hp outboard, perfect fit.

Fits over transom screws on a 1985 Johnson Seahorse 4hp Outboard
I live in a neighborhood full of hooligans, so rather than pull my little motor off after each outing I decided to try out one of these outboard locks. It easily slid over the transom screws, but there is a LOT of horizontal movement. That's expected, since this is pretty much a "universal" lock and the distance between the transom screws probably varies. I'm going to need to do some modifications to keep it from sliding around, but overall it seems very sturdy and secure.

Fits 25HP yamaha like a glove
just got this and it fits my 2010 F25hp Yamaha outboard like a glove. I used electrical tape to wrap the turn buckles and the threads to be sure I don't get any rattling, that works great. the lock itself fits into the bracket nice and snug and with the tape, It never made a peep for the two days in a row that I was in the boat at various levels of speed and idle. After reading some of the negative reviews of locks rusting shut, I sprayed lithium grease into the locking openings and sprayed liquid wrench dry silicone all over the outside of the lock to prevent it from freezing up. I had that problem with a basspro motor lock years ago and had almost destroyed my motor bracket trying to get the thing off, so now I know I need to maintain this lock every so often to keep from doing that with this newer motor. OH YEAH!!!! don't forget to put a spare key in a safe place and label it!!!! locks smith wont touch it if he cant get to it.

Five stars.
This is an excellent motor lock go small outboard motors. Inexpensive to boot.

It's ok, not the heaviest steel, but should do the job
it doesn't strike me as very heavy duty, nor as good as the one that I used to have. It did go on easily and should be fine. hopefully it will never be tested by thieves! the lock can be removed by cutting the shank that's exposed at the top, with a moto tool sort of device (which I had to do on my old one). Also, any lock that's exposed to weather needs to be lubricated periodically, or they will be a problem getting to unlock - which is more an issue of maintenance rather than the manufacturer, IMO. I have had luck of squirting silicone or wd40 or other similar products into locks to get them to open, but will try to remember to keep this one lubed!

Does what it's supposed to.
I've owned a bunch of these over the years, using them to lock my outboard to my duck boat. The boat sits alone for days at a time until I return to it and this is a way to keep honest people honest. The reason I have had a few of these is because somehow I always seem to lose the key and have to cut the bar off with a grinder. Just so you know, if somebody shows up with a grinder they will be able to get this off.

Good quality, best price I could find
I bought this to secure a 9.9 Mercury outboard motor on an inflatable dinghy. It fits well, easy to use. I've used it for several months in salt water. No rust, the lock works great. It was the best price I could find.
