Can anyone help figure out which to get between linear or tactile ? I'm only familiar with membrane. This will be my first mechani. I mostly just type

My wife has a linear switch.  Whenever I have to type something on her keyboard I absolutely hate it. I deem it practically unusable. If you ever type anything without looking at the screen you will hate life with a linear switch. Hate it when typing, hate it when gaming, just plain hate it.

Blue switches are the ones with a loud audible clicky sound with each key press.  Basically if you're one of those weirdos that enjoy listening to ASMR sounds of people playing with plastic wrap, eating, licking a microphone or other things that would bother a sane person... you'll love blue switches.

Lastly there's the tactile only switches.  Which is the only real option for sensible people.  Wonderful to type on without making an ungodly amount of noise.  Has a slight "bump" feel when you press the key far enough.  Kind of like a trigger pull if you're familiar with firearms, there's a certain point where you know the key is going to go bang. Fantastic for gaming too.

Question 2

Would I be able to replace the key caps with customs ones or am I stuck with the key caps it came with?

The keyboard includes a keycap puller and 12 alternate keycaps: 1,2,3,4,5,Q,W,E,R,A,S,D. These have a beveled, inset shape to them so that you can "feel" your WASD (or other choices) without looking down. However I am NOT aware of any custom keycaps that you can purchase separately (or any third parties that make keycaps for this).

The mechanical Logitech GX switches are an OEM design (As opposed to keyboards which use a common brand of switch, such as Cherry MX) - you will have to research to determine whether anyone makes third-party keycaps that will attach to the Logitech mechanical switches.

However, you CAN differentiate keys by LED color, using the LightSync RGB setting menu in the driver software, in case that approximates what you want to achieve.

Can you set a single color?

Yes. You can set whichever color you like. You can set it full white, full blue, full red, full yellow, full green, full any color you want really.
You can make it pulsate also, or change the color of the keys you press... You can change it per application also, as long as it's supported.

Question 4

are the switches soldered to keyboard... are they swappable?

The confusion may be in defining "switches" versus "keycaps".

The Keycaps are swappable and removable.

Kara is correct: The mechanical switches are NOT removable or swappable.
