La Perruche Pure Cane Brown Sugar Cubes (750g/1.65lb box) | Ideal Sugar Cubes for Coffee | Pack of 1

I bought these cubes primarily for making old fashioned's. Now I was taught the original (old fashioned way ;P) to make a proper old fashioned. I take great care in making it properly, as should you, because if you know what a proper old fashioned tastes like, you'll know it is truly a classic that should be respected. I'll get to how it's done in a second, first let me tell you why these cubes are the best. They are true cane sugar, not the processed white crap. These give your drink a sweet, but not overpowering flavor. Don't get me wrong, they are strong, but instead of just flat out sweetness, they have a mild, natural, almost maple/honey flavor to go along with the rich, deep, sweetness. It's magical what this does to a drink, and not just an old fashioned, but tea, coffee, these things just make your drinks taste better, period. They're magical cubes that I now keep in a special white bowl with special tongs, I love them. When dissolved they create the best simple syrup imaginable, and that's the key, the reason you use these instead of a simple syrup in a drink like and old fashioned is because they give you the perfect amount of sweetness required. They may be a little on the pricier side if bought in smaller packages, but there are a LOT in this package, and it really is quite a good price for the quality you are getting. Now, on to what I was talking about earlier regarding an Old Fashioned. How it's done: I drop one of these sugar cubes in an old fashioned glass Wet it with 2-4 drops of angostura bitters (which you can buy here: http://www.amazon.com/Ounce-Angostura-Bitters-Cocktail-Drink/dp/B00125R7TE) I add a splash of water (per your preference but I typically put enough to just cover the sugar cube) Then comes the fun part: take your muddler and muddle the sugar cube into dust, then keep muddling/stiring it around until completely dissolved. One of the advantages of these sugar cubes are that they dissolve very nicely into a syrup fairly quickly. Then, add your bourbon, about 2 ounces. Almost there, take an orange, a small sharp knife or a nice peeler, and peel a thin/circular skin off the orange, drop it in the glass and LIGHTLY muddle the peel just to release the oils in the peel, nothing more. (NOTE: We do not use an orange slice, or muddle with a cherry, those are really just garnishes that have somehow made their way into the drink over the years and just ruin the make-up of a proper old fashioned. If you want a cherry, keep it out of the glass, or on a skewer) Take the glass and smell the wonder that is a true old fashioned, add a large ice cube if you would like, and enjoy. Do yourself a favor and get these if you like old fashioneds, follow my instructions and believe me, you'll have a whole new appreciation for them. If you have never had one, get these and try one, and welcome to one of the best drinks ever made. If you want these for any other reason, you really can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Although there is a white sugar version of this product I wanted to try the brown sugar because I love the flavor of brown sugar; especially in coffee drinks. Unlike boxes of brown sugar, the cubes do not hardened, and due to the rough hewn of the cubes, they melt MUCH faster than regular sugar cubes. So this product alone solves two of the downsides of cubed sugar and loose brown sugar. I will likely purchase the white cube version of this product to have on hand for those uses where you do not want the caramal flavor that is so delicious with brown sugar, but I will always reach for the brown sugar; especially for my coffee. Frankly when I came across this product I didn't search further for rough hewn brown sugar cubes so I do not have independent knowledge of any similar product, and yes, compared to pressurized sugar cubes this item is more expensive, but it is totally worth the money. I live on a very limited income but, and I say this with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek, I'd rather give up my cat and all her attendant expenses just so I could buy these brown sugar cubes. Sorry cat, momma needs her sugar cubes. : )

Love its single packaging. When serving coffee to my friends I include two cubes. It looks very fancy and the love it.

I bought this product on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised with how tasty sugar can be. This is not just sweet but had nice, subtle caramel-undertones. They dissolve quickly and evenly in my beverage (and in my mouth!) and were a big hit in our house -- they did not last long. Not cheap, but fun to get as a "splurge". The sugar cubes are "rough cut" as stated on package and sugar cubes vary quite a bit in size, as pictured on the package. This was not a concern for me at all, but thought I would mention that as it may concern others. Only reason I didn't give this a 5-star was the price.

I have been using these cubes for years and they are the perfect match for Cafe DuMonde yellow can coffee. It's my go-to morning start. (First review) First review still true today, 12/18/25, excellent product. As for shipping, neither of the two boxes was wrapped so that in shipping the boxes broke apart and I had both cubes and sugar dust in with the other contents of the package. It would be nice if Amazon would put each box in its own Ziploc style envelope in the event of the box being broken. In my case this time, the sugar boxes were shipped with 10 books loosely packed no bubble wrap and the bottom had broken out of the box. This is a shipping issue, not a retailer issue.

Takes too long to dissolve

大きさがバラバラだったり、個包装に2個入っていたりするのですが パッケージの愛らしさと素朴な味が気に入っています。 我が家では、コーヒーだけでなくお料理の隠し味にも使っています。 和食の煮物の仕上げに入れるとコクが出て美味しくなるんですよ。 オススメです。
