The Henry Cow Box Redux: The Complete Henry Cow

One of the best and most concise complete works about but not sure why the brief tracks from the Various Artists "V" album are not included .Pleased the Greasy Truckers album tracks are included though.Box sets like this are for the fan and not the casual listener.Well compiled.

A challenging listen but well worth the effort. One of the true maverick bands.

Long ago, a few months after In Praise of Learning first came out, my friend and I were standing around the bins, anxious for whatever might be new from the then outstanding Virgin label (what happened there?) or Ohr, or Sky, or Brain, or Vertigo, when a hanger-on strolled up. My pal and I were talking about Henry Cow and the hanger-on interrupted with some specious comment. "O, which is your favorite?" my friend asked. "The one with the sock on the cover" came the reply.The music and performances of Henry Cow have not aged one whit since those days. The transformations brought by Lindsay Cooper and then the entirety of Slapp Happy seemed to set in motion a practically endless series of innovations and inspirations within the group and in the wider world. In fact, and of no interest to anyone, I'd say that Unrest is perhaps the finest record ever recorded.No point in going on -- I can find nothing to negate the worth and power of this music. But to say that no matter how many versions of the Cow catalog you may already possess, do acquire Redux as well. The remastering is both revelatory and respectful of the originals, further perfecting the already perfect.

Allt ljusdmässigt som man behöver med gruppenfantastiskt

Cofanetto (ben 18 CD!!!) molto bello e ben curato e corredato da ben tre libretti sulla storia e sulla filosofia musicale di un gruppo che ha fatto la storia della musica sperimentale e controcorrente rispetto al panorama musicale commerciale e "para-sinfonico progressive" degli anni '70. Strumentisti, anzi pluri-strumentisti eccezionali, partiture non facili, ma stimolanti di un periodo davvero irripetibile ed unico. Voglia di sperimentazione portata al massimo della sua espressione artistica. Non solo gli album in studio, spesso contraddistinti dalla cover di un calzino "metallico", ma anche concerti dal vivo in quella Mitteleuropa anni '70 che partoriva di tutto, sulla scia della Scuola di Canterbury, in cui spiccavano i Soft Machine, Hartfield and the North, Gong, Nucleus, in cui rock sperimentale e jazz si sposavano in modo impeccabile. Difficile immaginare ai giorni attuali giovani capaci di dedicarsi all'ascolto degli Henry Cow, ma uno sforzo meriterebbe, solo per capire la profonda preparazione musicale di questi autentici ed eroici alchimisti della sperimentazione made in England e non solo. I concerti di Bremen, Hamburg, Trondheim, e Stockholm & Göteborg, sono davvero stupendi. Non è semplice recensire una simile antologia per la sua estensione e complessità, ma di certo chi ha vissuto il magma musicale tra la fine dei sessanta e inizi settanta, non può fare a meno di rivalutare gli Henry Cow. Il prezzo può sembrare eccessivo, ma 18 CD e tre libretti ne testimoniano la sua accettabilità.

Über die fantastische Musik dieser Band ist bereits alles gesagt worden. Sehr zu begrüßen ist diese umfangreiche Box, die die 3 früher erschienen (teils raren) Box-Sets vereinigt. Leider stecken die CDs in Hüllen aus sehr billigem dünnen Papier und jede einzelne in zusätzlicher Plastikhülle (warum?). Merkwürdigerweise kommt die Box nicht verschweißt. Bei 2 Bestellungen meinserseits gab es deshalb unschöne Lagerungsspuren. Für den Sammler ärgerlich.
