Extra durable self-healing and reversible cutting mats are green on one side, black on the other and are 3mm thick. Both sides have grid marks and a 1 inch grid pattern. The mat is made from a unique composite vinyl material designed for both rotary blades and straight utility blades and provide a long-lasting, non-glare surface that can be cut and slashed constantly without showing marks or cutting lines. It can also be used as a desk blotter or general-purpose work mat.

**Q: What kind of material is this mat made of?**
A: Cindy: It is a HEAVY DUTY 1/16 or more thick PLASTIC.  I also have the FISKAR'S same size mat which is LESS heavy duty and MORE money.I use the Alvin's for GLASS CUTTING: and the FISKAR'S for my photography settings on 2D & 3D art.Hope that helps - BUY the ALVIN!

**Q: would it be safe to use it for fondant work? thanks.**
A: I've never used the cutting mat with food but all I can say is to try it. The mat doesn't give off an odor.  I'd be concerned with some kind of taste transfer.  I'd bet the mat would go through the dishwasher safely.  It's not as flexible as the picture may suggest.  I think it's a great idea - give it a try!

**Q: What is the exact thickness of this mat?**
A: I don't know. But neither too thick to be inflexible nor too thin to protect the table. Maybe 3mm.

**Q: does it have markings in centimeters?**
A: According to the Alvin website, the 296M 14" Professional Parallel Glider is a Metric tool, the 'M'' standing for METRIC.  Why is this seller advertising the "296 M ", yet they only want to provide the imperial version "296"? Item Numbers mean things.
