I found that, indeed, they will slide when the side screw is tightened more than the barest minimum amount. I did find other clamps that cost around $65.00 each, but since I needed ten for a one time project, I didn't think it worth spending $650.00 just for clamps. What I did do was to take some pieces of 40 grit sanding belt and, folding it over on its self, used it under the clamp pads to gain quite a bit of traction. The clamp pads are oily and will leave stains on bare wood, so a scrap piece of wood under the side clamp would be a good idea.
