It's bright...but has enough color changing and dimming control to make it functional. That said, there are better choices for pure reading light. This is more for indirect lighting and a "statement"...which is exactly why I bought it. It's solid enough but light...and well worth the $50 for the option. If you're looking for something more practical for studying or heavy reading...probably best to look into downward facing "me-too" LED option. But...if you want something unique and modern with the ability to easily light the corner of a mid-sized room...this is your choice. I like that this lamp offers three different color temperatures so you can have the light match the ambient light of the room. My only complaint of this product is that it’s a little small for the room that I have it in, and that it’s not offered in any bigger sizes. In the photos I posted it puts into perspective the size of the lamp next to other objects.
