Slowly, surely, vindication.
How can we still say this album is so slept-on when most knowledgeable folks concede that it's a bona fide classic? Not that I'm complaining. Not at all. I'm glad folks are finally on board. But this album isn't as overlooked as it used to be, that's all.It still hasn't received the recognition it deserves, though.I'm not sure how you can craft an insightful review for this album. Whenever I listen to it (and that's what you do when this is on: listen), I get lost in the words, beats, and chords. It's hard to think rationally about this music, because it's more an emotional than analytical experience. Suffice it to say Digable hit it way out of the park on this one. They've reissued this on double vinyl. I got mine in the mail last night and put the album on for the first time in a couple years. It sounded wonderful. My half-asleep girlfriend was hearing it for the first time. She wouldn't let me turn it off...

Their other masterpiece
'Reachin' being the first. Sublime mix of hip hop, jazz, funk and soul.

Old fan from an odd angle
Not a particularly informative review, but, I bought this CD used shortly after it was released, when I used to spend all of my lawnmowing and babysitting money on used CDs. At that point in time I was into Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Entombed - you get the thread. I found my way to this by accident after hearing "Little Renee" on the Coneheads soundtrack, a happy accident. I found this album captivating back then, despite my rampant teenage angst, and "re-discovered" it recently. Very cool, very weird, smooth and enjoyable sound that is still absolutely brilliant and distinct two decades later. A couple of the tracks are turds (first minute of "Borough Check", K.B.'s Alley), but songs like "Black Ego", "The Art of Easing" and "For Corners" are just eternal. Great stuff. Worth a good listen for the 5 or 6 brilliant tracks and 3-4 more good ones that'll stick with you.I will direct you back to the Coneheads album - "Little Renee" is the first, but also clearly the best track I've ever heard by this group. I loved it then and still love it today. Unfortunately it's only available if you buy the album or Amazon's Music Unlimited. That put me over the edge to try Music Unlimited... this album also has "Soul to Squeeze" by Red Hot Chili Peppers which is also one of THEIR best tracks. This was a quarter century ago... when these folks would create top tracks for a movie soundtrack, vs. just licensing something from their existing discography. Anyway, both worth a good listen. I've also recently discovered Terry Lynn, similar vibe two decades later, but also very good. "System" is tops.I have probably earned more for Amazon referring sympathetic readers to like products... if anyone wants to offer royalties I'd be happier to keep cranking out these reviews! :D

Easy on the ears.
Pretty darn good stuff for an album of age. I am hearing it for the 1st time in 2017... It's all pretty acceptable, some cuts much better than that on my introductory spin. Have to let it settle into my brain before I can say more.

The Quintessential Rap Jazz Fusion Album!
I first got hooked on this album in my college days. It's awesome: rap, jazz, hip hop and infectious grooves all mixed together. I loved it and subsequently went to their concert. The concert was an out-of-this world experience - 25 piece band and all.The first of this album that I bought was a cassette tape which got played so much that it broke. I then went out and bought a CD: it got played so much that my CD player damaged it. I've yet gone out and bought the CD yet again and this time play it on MP3. This is the only album that I've ever bought a record 3 times! It's that good! Now years later, I have yet to hear anything quite like this.Long live the Dig P's!

Bad pressing?
I was really looking forward to getting this - it's my favourite rap LP and I've had it on CD since the 90s. Unfortunately the copy I received from Amazon is not up to scratch. I only played side one of disc one and that was enough. I've got a decent set-up - not high-end but good Monitor Audio speakers, Pro-Ject turntable and Onkyo amp - and pretty much everything sounds good on it, from 60s jazz LPs, 70s dub to modern classical. from the first track the speakers were distorting on the kick drum beats. I immediately put the CD on, the same track, and the there was no distortion to be heard, even at higher volumes. I haven't listened to the other three sides. I'm returning it to Amazon because what's the point of paying £30 plus for something that sounds worse than the CD?
