Great selection of sample wood stains. I am kinda reluctant to get into this and didn't want to spend money on something I probably wouldn't use more than a couple of times. This sample set has been excellent for that, but it also gives me a chance to try various shades as well, since otherwise I would not have bothered. I have not yet tried these out yet but for the reasons mentioned I am very happy with this purchase - and would recommend to anyone unsure of where to start or what colour would be best to match an existing item as you have options with these. I think this was great buy and if I do get into staining wood later on then this would probably be what would get me there.

Does the job well, and comes up true to colour. The only negative is that it tends to mask the grain rather than enhancing it, more like a paint than a stain. A little goes a long way.

This needed 3 coats to get the depth I wanted, not sure if wood was pine or oak as bought 2nd hand. Easy to apply and fast drying so all good, would recommend.

Great varnish

Couldn’t get an exact match of my maple hardwood floor with colours available. It worked though using the white ash stain (tester pot ) as I only had a small area where wood needed stained. Good you can buy a small tester pot.

I wanted to try the stain before deciding to buy the bigger size just in case and I'm glad I did.I tried the stain to a piece of pine wood, and the shade left me somewhat disappointed. The color change was barely noticeable so I won't be opting for this shade in the future.On the positive side, the stain had no strong smell, making it pleasant to work with. It was easy to apply, but the watery consistency made it a bit tricky to control during the process. It also dried too quickly, so you'll have to work fast, at least on pine wood.

Could have been a little ‘thicker’ - I am trying to refinish a faded piano, without sanding back to the veneer!

I tried several varnishes to use on plain pine and every one of them looked Orange. I tried this in Natural Oak and it is fabulous. The inexpensive wood I stained looks like a lovely warm shade of Oak and looks far more expensive than it was . It dries very quickly too which is brilliant. I am so impressed with it, I can’t recommend it enough
