There is so much insight, maps, notes, and cross references. This helps me SO much. I like the word for word translation of the ESV, and I like to compare that to my NKJV MacArthur and NLT Every Man’s Bibles. Gives me a wonderful depth of perspective. It’s a big boy to be sure but oh so worth it. And it lies flat surprisingly well for a thick hardback. Review: So much information, for the price it's a steal! - I love this Bible! I'm used to using an NIV study bible that my parents got me after I was baptised, but when I got further along in my faith and put more devotion into reading the word I wanted to get an ESV bible to be able to see how a more literal translation of various passages as I studied. I got this ESV Study Bible, and I love it! I still primarily use my NIV Study Bible because as a whole I find it easier/quicker to understand and I have years of personal notes written into it, but this bible served me well for a couple months when I sent that bible away to get rebound. Absolutely recommend this Bible to anyone! I find its study notes extremely insightful, the book introductions have so much useful contextual information, and the articles in the back explaining Christian doctrine is so amazingly put together, it would be a great resource to a new Christian if this was their first Bible. (Which, if you are and you're chill with a more literal translation, I cannot recommend this Bible to you enough!) There's many more features of this Bible that I haven't dug into yet but really should. At the price I paid for this (somewhere between $40-45), this is honestly a steal! No-brainer, buy one! An ESV bible plus so much additional and valuable resources and information, this is really an excellent Bible with great value!

Awesome Study Bible!
This is an amazing plethora of information! As I'm doing my "Bible Recap" daily study, I'm able to learn so much more about the subjects being talked about. My 20 minute study has become 35-40 minutes, but I'm leaning and retaining so much! I love being able to see where the scriptures come from and the people involved and what Gods message in it is. It explains so much and its a big book, but not so much that it's too hard to handle. The paper is quite thin, so I did purchase and add some book tabs to make it easier to get to the book I'm looking for.

Great for a 1st bible
I was undecided which Bible to get KJV, NIV, etc but decided that ESV would be best. Definitely recommend for a 1st Bible. It was my first, and I love it. There is so much information in here. Maps. Keynotes, Explanation of verses on the bottom of the page that helped me clarify multiple things. Pages are a bit thin, but I still give 5 stars.

Highly recommend this study Bible
If you're looking for a comprehensive study Bible, this is the one. Maps, articles, well-researched introductions, super helpful footnotes, explanations and I think it has a concordance (not sure its called that though). Such a great resource for anyone wanting to go deeper into scripture. The info is balanced as expected of a diverse and qualified Bible committee, and the publishers are transparent (i.e you know who the authors are) which counrs for so much when you desire integrity as a reader. I've gotten to appreciate these qualities even more now that I've learned about the approach taken by sectarian translations /versions (New World Transaltion, the Passion Translation & Cepher to name a few). Its my first study Bible and the buy was well worth it. It's heavy though (lol) so it's probably not the Bible you want to take to church every week. Trust me I tried and stopped due to the weight. Right now, I'm contemplating whether to get a regular (read smaller, lighter) ESV specifically to travel with or just stick with my Bible app...

Definitely buy if you're in need of a great Bible
I love this study Bible so much, I've bought it multiple times because the pages are kind of thin and I tend to ware my Bible out by going through the pages so much, but this thing is packed to the brim with so much information and I feel that I've learned so incredibly much from it, and it has been an Absolutely invaluable part of my spiritual journey. I am writing this review as I buy another copy for myself because my binding came off and so this time I'm going to buy one for my sister. I bought it for my husband as well last year. I recommend this to everyone who is looking to grow in their spiritual life with Jesus. ESV is a great translation as it's word for word.

Brilliant Resource but small kindle improvements would help
The ESV Study Bible is a fantastic resource that I would recommend to anyone for personal bible study or more in depth study. I will only say a small amount about the content though, since most of this review is with regard to the formatting for kindle. From all I've seen of the study bible notes, they are sound in terms of doctrine yet honest enough to make it known if there is debate about the particular meaning of a phrase or sentence. The translation is probably the most up to date translation from Greek and Hebrew into English, using the latest yet sound research to determine the most accurate translation. I'm no professional theologian but in my day to day use, I have not yet found evidence of so called liberal theology or research, in any of the study notes or translation notes or articles. A word for word (literal) translation philosophy has been used, as opposed to idea for idea translation philosophy where the translator has to make more decisions about the overall meaning of a phrase before he/she can translate it into English. Yet, I find the ESV Study Bible very readable, rather than difficult to understand as some other literal translations can sometimes be. The articles give brilliant insight and certainly help show the depth of God's self-revelation in Scripture. Some examples of articles are: Overview of the Bible: A Survey of the History of Salvation Introduction to the Pentateuch Introduction to the Historical Books Introduction to the Poetic and Wisdom Literature Introduction to the Prophetic Books The time between the Testaments The Roman Empire and the Greco-Roman World at the Time of the New Testament The Theology of the New Testament The Date of Jesus' Crucifixion God's plan of Salvation As far as the FORMATTING FOR KINDLE goes, it is fairly well formatted and as long as you know how to navigate, it is actually quite easy and fairly quick to jump to various parts of the Bible. (Click Menu, click index, type in book abbreviation with chapter and verse separated by a space - Obviously you need to know the correct abbreviations or you'll end up in a totally different book than the one you intended.) Moving between study bible notes and the Scriptural text is smooth as long as you know what the different characters indicating notes mean (A cross refers to a study bible note, whereas small superscript letters refer to cross references). While there have been several improvements in navigation since I first bought this Study Bible, the one thing that could be more streamlined is the navigation of the concordance. I use the concordance a lot and it's a bit of a cumbersome process to have to click menu, click go to, click table of contents, click the right button until I see concordance, then click concordance. Also, once you get to the concordance, you can select any letter of the alphabet that you want, but once you've selected any given letter, you can't jump to the next letter of the alphabet using the right arrow for example. You have to scroll through all the A words for example to get to one of the words at the end of that list or the left arrow to go back to the beginning of the list where you can click TOP to go back to the list of letters. As yet I'm not aware of any solution to this, to make navigating the concordance easier, or to search words within the concordance only. However, this won't stop me using this resource on my kindle. For quicker concordance navigation, I have found the design of the NIV Life application study bible more streamlined, but I do use the ESV Study Bible for kindle more despite this since I prefer the translation and the study bible notes. Still, I don't hesitate to recommend this resource for the kindle.
