From experience I prefer this as it makes putting on/off the shirt/jacket easier as fleece causes friction making the sleeves stick. I'm 5'11", 195 lbs and I never know whether a Large or X-Large would be the right choice, but after reading the reviews I chose Large, and that was the correct choice in this case. Plenty of chest room, perhaps a little too much gut room but that's the nature if this style. There's room underneath it for layering if not too bulky, the only exception might be the cuffs which button tight. Weight: I was looking for something that might be closer to a shirt than a jacket on the shirt-jac spectrum and again, this didn't disappoint. It's not as bulky as some other quilted shirt-jacs I've had, it hangs more like a shirt and is more relaxed. Yet it appears to have the much of the warmth of bulkier items in that class. So it can be worn on it's own as a shirt around the house or cooler weather outside, but can be more easily layered under a coat when you need serious warmth. If you're looking for more of a jacket then you may want to look elsewhere. Quality: No issue with the stitching, no loose threads, the buttons align and the button holes aren't over or under-stitched. The lining is like an old teddy bear and has warmth. I suspect that issues with the lining shrinking (or expanding) at a different rate than the flannel might be true if improperly washed/dried, but the care instructions explicitly state to wash cold and tumble or line dry and I'm not going to be pushing that particular enve;ope So I got exactly what I was looking for, in fact I'm going to order another.
