Extremely robust and versatile system for the money
Having used professional grade CCTV systems in the past working in retail and food service, albeit 15-20 years ago, the capabilities of this system blow them out of the water. Yes, I understand that in that time technology has gotten more advanced, which is why for the $269.99 that I paid for this system, I don't believe there is a better product on the market that meets the needs I had.I purchased this system to install in my aging father's home 7,700 miles away from where I am currently stationed in the military. My Dad wanted a system to keep an eye on things around his house due to concerns of vandalism and pranksters. He had purchased a couple Blink XT2 outdoor cameras at Best Buy upon the recommendation of the sales associate, which was $200 wasted... My Dad doesn't even know how to send a text message on his cell phone, but they sold him on cloud based cameras...All-in-all for this system, we spent about $550 (including sales tax and shipping of the items ordered from Amazon). The full system that I pieced together includes the following:- this Lorex 8 channel 1080p system (4 cameras, extension/power cables, DVR with 1TB hard drive, and necessary hardware; everything you need to wire and install 4 cameras and operate the system, assuming you have a tv or monitor to hook it up to)- one Zosi add-on 1080p camera- one Zosi 12v power adapter (although the camera system is 8-channel, the cabling and power adapter included only support 4 channels, so you need to order extra cabling for additional cameras0 not a big deal)- two Postta 150' BNC cable extensions- one Postta 100' BNC cable extension- Toshiba 32" Smart TV (Fire TV Edition)- one (donated from my stockpile of personal devices) Amazon Echo Dot (2nd generation)I went this route for a few main reasons:(1) Nothing beats having local storage of the recorded video...(2) ...except, also having the ability to access remotely and download video and take screenshots; this system allows both.(3) Hardwired cameras take longer to setup, but alleviate worrying about replacing batteris, no matter how infrequently.(4) Smart home features. This system is compatible with Alexa, Google Home, etc... I have it set up so that I can tell my Echo Show or Fire TV, in my bedroom 7,700 miles away, to show me any one of these cameras in real time. I also have this system setup with a 32" Toshiba Fire TV being controlled by an Echo Dot at my Dad's house; I'm still working out the kinks with the Fire TV, as it sometimes doesn't display what you want it to, however, my Echo Show does. Additionally, the Lorex Home app for Android and iPhone have given me the flexibility to view real-time footage and system alerts from my cell phone 24/7, from anywhere in the world. Lastly, I just got done setting up the Lorex Cloud program (from 7,700 miles away) on my Windows laptop, which gives me the ability to access the footage another way, as well as make on the fly changes to camera settings, recording, etc.One area where I think Lorex could use some improvement is in their Customer Service Department, however, for the price you are paying, I understand why it is limited- I come to this conclusion based on others' reviews and my one phone call regarding a question I had about using an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to keep the system online during power outages. I ultimately decided not to use an UPS at this time due to the good reliability of power where my Dad lives. Also regarding Customer Support, it would be nice if Lorex provided a full printed guide with their system, versus the small fold out quick setup guides. I set up the entire system, configured everything, setup Lorex Home on my iPhone, and Lorex Clioud on my laptop, without reading the instructions, but I am also very technologically inclined. I would have preferred the printed users manual for my father, so that he can read it and familiarize himself with the system in his free time. That being said, Lorex has the 114 page manual available on their website, which can be downloaded and printed, so it's really a non-issue, more of just a gripe about convenience.By no means is this an in-depth review. There are so many features of this system that I still need to explore. I spent about an entire day figuring out where to mount the cameras, doing cable runs through the attic of my Dad's house, and getting everything set up, but I also have OCD. You could easily un-package and plug everything in and get it operational, within an hour. All-in-all, I extremely happy with this purchase and the un-matched versatility of this system that gives my Dad peace of mind, and me the ability to keep an eye on things back home from halfway around the world. I would purchase this system again, and will likely purchase other Lorex systems for myself in the future. Anyone who gives this system a bad review is doing something wrong, or is overwhelmed by all of the features and settings that are available; perhaps they need something simpler, like a battery powered stickup camera.

This gave me peace of mind
Extremely well packaged and protected for shipping. Very easy instructions to follow step by step with color and if you miss a step it tells you along the way. I can use the app to check my camera anytime, use audio function to speak to anyone thru the camera. The motion detection is fabulous where I can select what areas of movement and motion to choose or record. I can even choose time of day to record. This is a fantastic system for the northeast New York winters. Very happy with my state of the art purchase with valuable features to customize my security cameras. Thank you Lorex!!!!

Great system! Upgraded from Arlo.
I switched from Arlo to this Lorex 4 camera 1080p system. It is hands down better. Continuous recording, better, programmable motion detection. Very easy to use. I have had no issue with the app or the function of the system. I did have one camera that was not working. Contacted customer service and it was easily setup for replacement with a few serial/model numbers and proof of purchase. I highly recommend.

Birthmas gift
This is a gift for my husband whose birthday and Christmas are days apart. So it's still wrapped and unopened. But this came in a box with Lorex acrossed it. And was handed directly to my husband. Also had a white sticker on it with the exact details of what's inside. But he's either playing stupid for me or really doesn't know what it is. So we still haven't installed it.
