Does this only shut the system down when it's actively raining, or will it prevent start up a day or two after a heavy rain?

The Rain Clik will actually do both. It will shut the system down if it starts raining during operation as long as it is enough water. Mine normally will not run for at least 24 hours after a good rain.

how far apart can sensor and reciever be?

Up to 800' line of sight. This varies depending on what the signal is passing through, walls, trees etc. We recommend trying to keep it within 50' of the controller.

Will the transmitter and receiver stay paired up after a power outage or do you have to manually reestablish pairing?

I have to reset from outside every time there's an outage.

Can this be installed with a Weathermatic SL 1600 controller?

If the Weathermatic SL has a "bypass" or sensor system in place, you should be able to us it. Review the owners manual for the Sensor to see if your controller wiring schematic is compatible. I used the Hunter RainClick on a Rainbird controller. Hope that helps.

Wiring - consult You Tube - not the documents supplied

Device eventually set up correctly and working well.The paper instructions provided are confusing and caused me to wire it up incorrectly.Had to refer to You Tube videos - they clarified the problem quickly.Hunter user guides are not great.

Great Rain-Freeze sensor, but buy the Solar sensor instead!!

This Rain-Freeze sensor is a great upgrade for my Hunter I-Core Controller; however, after buying this, I now know, I should have bought the Solar-Rain-Freeze sensor.TIP - The mistake I made is thinking I understood what Solar meant in the title of the better sensor - the Solar-Rain-Freeze sensor does NOT have anything to do with solar power, instead Solar refers to its ability to connect with internet weather sources providing temp and humidity etc info to better save water.
