Is Love Too Strong An Emotion for an Appliance?
I bake whole grain bread, at least once a week. Alas, my efforts proved too much for my Cuisinart stand mixer (which was purchased before I caught the bread bug). We chose that particular mixer because it had a more powerful motor than the KA Artisan, but still, over time, it began to labor and overheat. Eventually, it would shut down mid-knead, and wouldn't start again until it cooled off. I knew it was a matter of time, so off I went to find a powerful mixer that could withstand the heavy dough I was preparing. Of course, I first looked at the industry leader, the KA brand, specifically to its "Pro" line. Seemed plenty powerful, but yikes, the price. Still, I was willing to shell out the dough (so to speak) to get something that would last. Alas, the size of the mixer was such that I couldn't fit it into the spot where my previous mixer was stored. In reading the reviews, someone somewhere mentioned this Bosch Universal Plus, which I had never heard of before. Bosch, on the other hand, I know well. In addition to being a bread maker, I have done some woodworking as well, and have a number of Bosch power tools. They are outstanding in every way, so I figured I'd at least have a look at this. Well, the initial impression was: what the heck is this? This isn't a mixer. The design is certainly not in keeping with the overhead armature we all have come to know. Instead, the motor is beneath (and alongside!) the mixing bowl, and a vertical shaft extends upward. The reviews were great, and a quick YouTube search revealed that there were folks making as many as 9 loaves of whole wheat bread in a single batch. Since I only make 2 at a time, I figured surely this would work for me. And, it would fit on my counter. Given the Bosch reputation for quality and the good reviews, I pulled the trigger. Can I say: I love this machine. It is considerably quieter than my previous blender, but clearly has plenty of power (800W). I can mix up a batch of dough in about 25% less time than before, and the dough comes out beautifully. You might find that you need to modify your recipes slightly in terms of kneading or mixing time, because this machine does a pretty efficient job in less time. The dough hook is industrial-strength, and the mixing paddles that come with it do a great job with thinner batters and such. I honestly don't know why Bosch doesn't market this more aggressively (maybe they do so in Europe, but it the states, I've never seen one before). The bowl and attachments are easy to clean, another plus in my book. You can get a blender/food processor attachment as well, but I own a BlendTec blender so don't need that. If you're in the market for a powerful mixing appliance and don't mind thinking outside the box, you really ought to give this machine your consideration. Nope, I don't work for Bosch or have any relationship with them other than as a customer. But when I find a tool that exceeds my expectations, either in the woodshop or the kitchen, I don't mind bragging on it. The Bosch Universal Plus Kitchen Machine is, for my money, a wise investment. Now, if you'll excuse me, it's time to take my Oat/Whole Wheat bread out of the oven!

Bread Dough is no Problem!
I've purchased two machines in two weeks. First I bought the Kitchen Aid Artisan Series stand Mixer. I pulled it out of the box and was impressed -- it's a beautiful machine. I made a quick cake recipe with it -- no problem. Then I tried to make two loaves of honey oat maple bread -- total failure. The machine overheated and kept grinding to a halt as it attempted to kneed the dough. It actually smoked and set off my fire alarm. I was really disappointed so I sent it back for a refund (Amazon, by the way, was wonderful about the return). Enter the Bosch Universal Plus. As soon as my refund was processed I turned right around and ordered this machine. I really really want to make bread for my family and, to that end, I was determined to find a machine that could handle whatever kind of bread I choose to make. Anyhow, this thing came in the mail yesterday and I removed it from it's packaging. It is totally NOT as pretty as the Kitchen Aid. My wife told me, as a test, I ought to make the exact recipe that had nearly killed the Kitchen Aid machine. So, after setting it all up, that's what I did. When I flipped the power switch to the first speed I was a bit anxious. Was it going to struggle? NOPE! In fact, it went right through that dough like it was nothing at all. It ran for 7 minutes and never even broke a sweat. This was two loaves of combination whole wheat and conventional flour with a cup of oats incorporated. I wouldn't call it a particularly tough recipe, but it also isn't light. Bottom Line: If all you want to do is make some cakes and whip frosting then go for the kitchen aid. It's cheaper and it's prettier. If you want to make thick, tasty bread PLUS everything else under the sun then get the Bosch Universal Plus. It's a bit more expensive, and it's not as pretty, but boy does it work! I am very very impressed. Side Note: I own a vita-mix blender so I saw no purpose in getting the Bosch Universal Plus with the blender attachment. I have no idea how that motor works and I don't anticipate finding out. I just want to make lots and lots of bread.

Wish I Bought This Mixer Years Ago
After a years of buying bread machines of all brands and watching them die after a couple of years, my conscience got to me.....all that metal in the landfill. I only used the dough settings, as I could not abide the ugly loaf that emerged from the complete cycle. At our house we make bread loaves, flatbread, pizza once or twice a week, so the machines got a good workout. From start to finish, bread making took me 4 - 5 hours, so it could not be squeezed into an after dinner, after work project. The itty bitty paddle in the machines was not really working the dough as much as I did in the old fashioned hand kneading, but I stuck with them because they saved time. I cruised Amazon and saw the Bosch...the videos convinced me...this is what I need. It looked like this one would outlast 4 bread machines easily. What a difference. The energetic kneading brings up the gluten FAR better than bread machines and also far better than hand kneading. The resulting dough is super elastic and raises beautifully. It seems to not need raising twice...I did the experiment. I now put the dough strait into the pans and raising is faster than before. Start to finish these breads take about 2 hours, and I can do 4-6 at one time. The resulting bread has the best texture and taste of any I have ever made. I put them in the freezer until needed or give them away to grateful neighbors. I am kicking myself for sticking with bread machines so long. The process takes half the time, I get three times the number of loaves (saving on cooking fuel), and it tastes better. I'm getting all the credit and the machine is what deserves it. This is the best thing I have in my kitchen.

AMAZING !!
I can't say enough how much I enjoy this new mixer. I really wasn't sure when I was doing my research, as everyone I know has a Kitchen Aid, but long and short of it, the Kitchen Aid is waaay to heavy for me to carry and maneuver around plus I have very very little counter space. I wanted a compact unit that was easy to change, remove bowls and just all around use. My old unit was an Oster....and with all its parts was just 'ok'....but no where near as powerful. The Bosch unit has all the power I need. I was making a cookie / pastry and was able to make 3 batches of the recipe all at once and almost to the very end.....just had to add more flour at the work surface to complete it......it was GREAT. The bowls take a bit of getting used to on getting them off and on but they really are quite easy. The beaters rotating on their side is so much fun to watch that I never used the cover !! Getting the beaters off and on the unit was easy. The ONLY thing I would want to tell Bosch is that it is ABSOUTELY important when purchasing the cookie paddles that you purchase the steel holder as well.....I'm not sure 'why' it is sold separately....it makes it confusing and then you're not sure you have all the parts.....the LAST thing you want when you go to use it the first time is to NOT have all the parts !! I may invest in the food processing units at a later date. I already have a blender. After reading the booklet that comes with it, I was a bit unsure why you had to change beaters when doing things like cookies.......in otherwords going from creaming the butter to then adding the dry ingredients, you need to change to the 'paddles' and it may be a bit messy......but it was totally worth it !! Yes, it was a bit more than I wanted to spend, and I'm really NOT a baker.....I'm more of a cooker.....but I am very very happy with this unit.....I hope it lasts as long as my other.

Fantastic Product...Saves Mess, Time, and Arms
Owning a cabinet-building business, my husband always says that you gotta have the right tools for the job. Yes, this mixer is pricey, but in the long run, it saves me time and arm strength and does the job far better than I could ever do. My arms ain't what they used to be, and trying to knead 12 cups of freshly ground whole wheat flour for any period of time can really wear you out. And I like to make better use of my oven being on, so I make 4 or more loaves at a time. This machine really handles the dough well. My bread rose so high from having a nice gluten formation from the kneading, that next time I'm going to omit the little extra the recipe calls for. Also made a nice pizzelle dough using the beaters. The machine isn't very loud, as I expected it to be. Wasn't bothersome at all. Very easy to take apart and clean. I would advise watching some youtube videos to see it in action. If anything, more to see what other attachments you might want to get with it to save on shipping (if any). Amazon (CSN Stores) offered a competitive (if not the lowest) price, and I was able to buy Amazon gift cards at Giant Eagle for the extra gas savings. Something to think about. You won't regret buying this.

I'm pretty sure if he had a choice between me and ...
This machine is so much greater than any other you can buy...especially if you are a bread/pasta maker. My Danish husband has been using a Kitchen-Aid for years, getting only two loaves out of it at a time. This doubled with the Bosch. I suggested we look at this product after our Kitchen-Aid started to die (it's still useable, and I mostly use it for small-batch cookies, cakes, etc.), and after I talked him down from an industrial model, we settled on this. He loves this machine in a way I can't describe. I'm pretty sure if he had a choice between me and the Bosch, it would be the Bosch (he adds: it's much more reliable). It has all the attachment options you would expect from Kitchen-Aid, and then some. We buy him attachments for birthdays and holidays, and he stores them in a special part of the kitchen in which none of us are allowed to go near. To be fair, I should state that we make all of our own bread, pasta, yogurt, ferments and ground meat. We buy 50lb bags of grain and whole sides of pork/beef. This thing is invaluable. I had a Family Grain mill when we bought this, and we bought an adapter for the Bosch on Family Grain that works like a charm. My husband wants me to add that the power is well worth the price here as well (as I type this, we are making pizza, dough made in the Bosch). My husband is an engineer/mechanic of epic proportions if I say so myself. I would highly, highly recommend. You will not regret having this machine at your disposal.

So far, so good!!
I am enjoying my new mixer. I will say, there is a learning curve to this machine when you're used to a KitchenAid for your entire life. I was a bit skeptical at first, as some of the plastic parts made me nervous. When you're used to stainless steel and Kitchen Aid sturdiness, dealing with plastic parts is kind of scary. It is fast, mixes dough and batter quickly, and the capacity definitely beats my old mixer, so that's very nice! It isn't too loud, and the suction cups holding it in place on the counter are almost TOO strong! But that's not a complaint....just an observation. I do wish this bundle would have included the cookie paddles and metal piece that goes with it, because you cannot make cookies without that medal part, or else the paddles will break. So, there is that one complaint. It was hard tracking down those pieces and quite expensive when I did find them. Overall, though...I think I'm going to like my new Bosch! Even if it's just for the fact that I can make more bread dough in one sitting.

Love the mixer!
I purchased the Bosch Universal Plus Stand Mixer 800. This unit is the cat's meow for mixing. I have been making 5 loaves of bread a week and this made it very simple. Mixes dough well! I can mix a full batch of dough without any power problem. I use it for pizza doughs, cookies and anything else that needs to be mixed. I can make a full bowl of chocolate chip cookies with added nuts with no problems.I can whisk up frostings better than I ever have. I add the ingrediets while mixing with the lip on the bowl. The lip or outer lid twist locks in place . So, you do not have to worry about it coming off when mixing dough. That is the same with the inner lid. I mix the yeast in the bowl for proofing. Then put on both the inner/outer covers to let it proof. When proofed, I take the inner cover off and start the mixer on 2nd speed and dump in the flour while it is mixing. There is no mess.I use the mixing time to grease the pans and flour the table. I can easily pop the bowl off to dump the dough or scoop out the cookie dough. Then drop it in my dish water to clean. It cleans very easy and everything comes apart to get it clean. I gave it 4 stars because it is so useful and durable.I did not give it five because you have to spend more than a normal specific appliance to get any of the attachments for it. There is a food processor and many other attachments, but I could buy individual pieces cheaper. So, the idea of it being a multi kitchen tool is out for me. But, I still love the mixer.

A Strong Machine
I’m extremely pleased with the Bosch mixer. It’s not a heavy machine so it can be stored in a cupboard until needed. I’ve made cookies, and enough bread dough for six loaves of bread in one go. Very easy to use and easy to clean.

Ooh La La Bosch
Very different from the Kitchen Aid. Huge capacity bowl. Easier to load bowl than Kitchen Aid. Small or large batters. Cookies cakes breads. Doesn’t take much height space on counter. Cutting edge machine for the baker. The shipper Kayla of Distribution America is super kind and amazing. Fulfilled my request without a hitch.
