Whitmor 3-Tier Expandable Shoe Rack - Store up to 12 pairs of shoes - Bamboo & Matte Black

I love this shelving unit! I bought it just over three years ago when I was moving into a new house and decided I wanted to store my shoes in a way I could easily see and grab them versus throwing them in an old laundry basket and having to constantly dig around searching for the other pair and ruining my nice heels too. Now, I will admit the materials used to make this unit are very cheap, esp. the wood and a couple of areas had already splintered when I received it, but I quickly remedied this by simply removing the splinters with my bare hands. It came with all the parts needed to assemble it, but it took a little longer to do this probably than it should have because I had to slightly wrestle with it to get/bend the shelves to line up with the wooden frames (either that or it also could have been the fact that this was the first time I had ever assembled anything and I was just a complete novice at it). Of course when I say "wrestle," I mean I barely used a little more muscle to put it together and I'm as weak as people come, so anyone else (but me) should have no problem putting it together in a jiffy. Once it finally was assembled, it was perfect! Today, I am storing 21 pairs of sneakers, heels, and sandals on it (the ones I mostly use) and I'm doing this by stacking some shoes on top of each other (this goes to show how much space is in between each shelf). I am even storing a pair of rubber sandals underneath the bottom shelf (the ones you use like at the pool that are cheap and flat). This storage unit has fulfilled every single need and want of mine and I'd buy another one exactly like it, if I had more closet space to put a second one in. Now, let me address some of the points mentioned in the negative reviews. First off, my unit was NOT defective when it arrived, i.e. it was not broken, warped, and the screws were not missing, as some people mentioned in their negative reviews, but all my returns to Amazon have been simple, esp. when a product was defective, so I don't think this would be a problem, so much as an inconvenience, on the off chance you received a defective one. Secondly, some reviewers have stated that this unit is cheap and they don't believe it will last for long or hold up to storing more heavier items. Well, I already addressed the cheap quality above and I don't know what they planned to store on it that they think would break it, but If you use it like it was intended for, i.e. shoes, clothes, purses, stuff of that lightweight, etc., then I would expect yours to last like mine has, which has been around for more than three (3) years now and still looks pretty brand new. I think I need to mention that I do not move mine much other than to occasionally vacuum underneath it and it sits on carpet, so it doesn't move on its own either when I remove shoes off and its never toppled over. Thirdly, some people have mentioned that the unit seems small and cannot store many shoes. Well, I don't know about men's shoes, but it holds more than enough of my women's shoes perfectly well (though I have no problem stacking a few of my older pairs on top of each other). The unit may be small for some people, but its size is absolutely perfect for my small closet and its fits really nicely underneath all my clothes. Lastly, a few reviewers have remarked that it is flimsy, weak, and/or too lightweight and while I do agree it is lightweight, I disagree about it being weak or flimsy. I wanted a unit that is light because this was going in my closet and I can't imagine why someone would need a heavier one unless your storing bowling balls or something else than what this particular unit was designed for. It being light and sturdy enough is ideal for easily pulling it out with shoes still on it to quickly vacuum underneath it and put it back without really bending over or straining one's self. Overall, I bought this closet shelving unit when it was just over $20 and I feel like I have gotten more than my money's worth since then. It does its job and it does it well and I would recommend this product to anyone who just needs a simple storage unit and intends to use it like it was meant for. Again, three years later and it's still standing! Edit: It’s been almost 9 years now (June 2020) and it’s still standing! Almost in as good as shape as the day it arrived. This is a solid buy!

This is the best shoe rack ever!!!! I have tried so many different type of shoe racks but they just don't work. Either the item is to flimsy or the plastic pockets rip or the cubby holes are too small. This one has none of those problems. It holds lots and lots of shoes and is extremely sturdy. It took less then 15 minutes to assemble it. I have it park in front of my small closet door and since its on wheels I can move is easily without any shoes falling when I need to access my closet. When I am done I simply lock the wheels with one step on the locking hinge. I would not recommend this rack for those of you would want to store very high heels or tall boots. I wear a size 8 shoe and have my extremely high heels (4 + inches) on the top rack. It holds 5 pair and I can roll down the leg portion of some of my boots and storage them. It was suggested that I take out some of the bars for high heel and/or tall boot storage but I did not want to compromise the sturdiness of the rack. I am not an expert - not for sure if it would have made a difference but I just did not want to take that chance especially since I was/am so pleased with the rack. If you are on a limited budget, or like me; refuse to pay $60 plus dollars for a storage rack that holds 3 boots. For resolution to this problem, may I suggest a utility rack. You can buy them with or without wheels and they are much more cheaper then purchasing a specialty item for your tall boots or very high heels. They come in different sizes, offer more space and some have adjustable shelving. I brought one to put my tall boots on and additional high heels. I made sure the width matched this shoe rack so it would not stick out. I roll up some magazines to put in my boots to help them remain standing and leave the magazines on the utility cart for easily storage. I stick my heels inside the holes of the utility rack so they won't fall or move. Best solution.... most likely not ..... but it works for me. Back to this rack..... I would recommend this for someone would has lots of low heel shoes and/or limited space. Just make sure you tighten everything to ensure the sturdiness of the rack and it will perform as advertised.

Now that I'm not in grad school and working in a chemistry lab any longer, and since I sit for most of the day at a desk, I've started collecting shoes. I decided that my pile on the closet floor wasn't working any longer so I went looking for a shoe rack and settled on this one. I'm mostly happy with it. I managed to squeeze it into my closet and it fits fairly flat against one wall. It fits all the shoes I have so far, although I do NOT have 50 pairs of shoes (yet). I do not expect that this rack will ever fit 50 pairs of shoes unless they are all narrow ballet flats or low-heeled dress sandals. There are 10 sets of bars you can install, with the idea being that you can fit 5 pairs of shoes across each set of bars. The height between bars, if all the bars are installed, is not enough for platforms, boots, or shoes with really high heels. What I did was leave two sets of bars out. It means I have only 8 sets of bars, but it's now arranged so that higher shoes can be on 3 sets (if you include the top, where height is not limiting). The shoe rack is still sturdy without all the bars installed. I estimate being able to keep somewhere in the range of 32-36 pairs of shoes on this rack, the way I have it set up, which is not bad. The sides of the rack are a shiny, silver-tone metal. The bars are a dark metal with a rougher surface (that, for some reason, one of my cats likes to lick and rub her face on). I guess this is to keep shoes from sliding off. I found this relatively easy to put together myself, without help. All you need is a fairly large Phillips screwdriver; by myself, it took me about 30 minutes to assemble. The rack is light and has wheels so it is easy to move. All-in-all, I'm happy with the purchase, though, and would buy the same model again.

I couldn't be more pleased with this shoe rack. It assembled quickly and easily and this is coming from someone who usual puts things together backwards first. It is sturdy and solid. These bars screw into the chrome vertical side bars so this shoe rack isn't going to fall apart and you won't have a heap of shoes on the floor of your closet like those flimsy white rack where the bars rest on little pieces of plastic. Rolls well and looks good. All parts were included, and in very good working order. Not one stripped screw, not one scratch on the chrome. As for the number of the shoes it holds I'm not complaining. First I'm not going to jam 5 pairs on a single row because I want to easily view my shoes. My shoes are more than just objects that go on my feet. Five pairs may fit but not on my shoe rack. It also depends on the the style and the size - boots vs. dainty sandals. Men's vs women's. It holds ankle boots just fine. I found that if I zipped them up then bent them over a bit; it doesn't hurt them and they stay straight on the racks. It's too bad manufacturers of these things don't get with the program and change their designs to fit women's shoes. All they have to do is increase the space in between rows a a little. The price is very good. I almost bought it from a well known store that deals exclusively in items for organization, however, their price was $20 higher plus shipping. I have Prime so no shipping charges. I'm ordering another now that I know how easily it assembles and how good it looks in the closet - one for summer and one for winter shoes.

I have a shoe rack I've been using for years that was great. But I moved and a couple of pieces broke when it got tossed in the truck. Without those pieces, it couldn't hold all my shoes and boots. So I started looking around at options. I tried several that I found on sale for about $30, but the plastic sides buckled and they fell over. Others, needed to be bought individually and stacked, but didn't seem stable. All went back to the store. I checked out some pricey ones at places like the Container Store, but nothing really fit the bill, and they were very expensive. The wood ones looked nice, but weren't easy to take apart for moving and weren't expandable, and were very expensive. I saw this rack reviewed on the Target website and it looked like just what I needed, but at $70+ that was more than I wanted to spend. I popped over to Amazon and was delighted to find it for less than $50. It just arrived and I am actually really excited. I love this shoe rack! The box was heavy, so I knew it would be sturdy. No way is this one bending and falling over It was easy to assemble and only took 15-20 minutes. The only tool you need is a little wrench included in the box. The handle is used as a screwdriver to tighten the screws and and the wrench tightens the wheels. I like that you can use it with or without the wheels. I like the wheels, because I can move it around to dust underneath. Like most people, my closet isn't huge, so I can hand my belts on the wall behind it and roll the rack out of the way if I need to get to them. Now to the bottom line...I put all my shoes on this rack and its really sturdy. I've got 5 pairs of boots on the top rack (they're squeezed a bit because of wide uggs and rain boots), but was able to fit all my other shoes, sneakers, and sandals on the other rows with room to spare on the floor underneath. I actually have more than 50 pairs, so I put a dozen pair of flat sandals lying sideways on one level. You can fit 5 pairs of women's shoes on each of the ten levels. For men's shoes, it's probably more like 4-1/2. So, if you're looking for a shoe rack that fits a lot of shoes, is sturdy, and easy to take apart if you need to, this is the one you want to buy.

This is just an AWESOME shoe rack! It shipped super fast. It came with very clear instructions on how to put it together, along with the necessary amount of screws and a little screwdriver thingy to hold the bolts for the feet. IF I hadn't of put the side pieces together backwards, it would have taken me less time to put it together, but yes, I messed up. This is such a simple thing to put together...you just screw in the poles. I didn't have use of a screwdriver until the last side went on, then I just used to for the screws. The feet went in just fine <use the tool they sent to get these in tightly> and I like that 2 of the feet can lock. This absolutely holds 50 pairs of shoes/boots/sneakers! Some of my boots didn't fit because they are just too long. I have high heel dress shoes, wedges, sneakers, clogs <low & high heel>, and a few pumps on my rack. I am 4 pair short of filling this rack, but when I do get more, they will surely fit just fine. I really like that this one has wheels as I can mover it anywhere I want to, and can lock the 2 wheels and it won't move. It's lightweight even though it's all metal, even with the shoes on it so that's not an issue for me. I also like the powder coated metal bars my shoes sit on...the shoes won't get marred or scratched and it's a very strong, sturdy shoe rack. I purchased another shoe rack that I like, but it's plastic and only holds abut 30 pairs of shoes and it doesn't have moveable feet. If I had more shoes, I would definitely purchase THIS same shoe rack. The price is good, it will last a long time provided it's taken care of...and I can get to my shoes without having to dig in my closet! I love it - it's perfect for my needs!

I had more vertical space than horizontal inside one of my apartment closets, and I wanted to put a tall shoe rack inside. I wanted something for several pairs, but unfortunately none of the 40-50 pairs shoe rack sold on Amazon would horizontally fit my space. So in the end I was looking for something: - Stackable: might just go with smaller ones on top of each other - Possibly expandable: so it was small enough to fit my horizontal space but expanding to maximize space usage - Affordable: I definitely didn't want to spend a lot of money on this This was the best one that I could find with those three characteristics. I've had it for a few months now and it's serving its purpose. If you want something stackable, expandable and with a reasonable price, I would definitely recommend it. It's really easy to put together and it requires no tools. On the cons side, I must say construction quality is not the best. If you have just one, it's probably fine, but as you stack more (I have three), it gets really wobbly. It's not a big concern to me because it stays inside the closet, but it can be a little annoying. Also, this is not very good for bigger heels, which is unfortunately the case of at least half my shoes. The vertical space between one bar and the other is not that much, so putting a shoe in the rack / removing a shoe takes a little effort, as the heel of the top shoe will very likely be "inside" the bottom shoe. Wedges are particularly hard, because the top part of the shoe will be fighting for space with the bottom part of the shoe on top.

I used two of these units stacked to quickly and cheaply add shelves to the back of my tiny linen closet. (After stacking the units with the supplied dowels, I tied the two units together with string so they couldn't ever accidentally come apart.) They work fine (I have no idea though how they would work with something heavier than sheets and towels on them). I cut up the box one came in to make a liner for the top shelf so I could store small things that would have fallen through the wire shelves. Even though they initially felt quite sturdy, being a little OCD I added a very simple string X-brace to the back of each unit just to be sure. Assembly was easy and quick, taking me only 15-20 minutes from starting to unbox a unit to completing its setup. BUT there were too many ways the assembly _could_ have gone wrong. There was no hint to start all screws before tightening any of them, something some folks do as a simple matter of course but others may be unaware of, and probably accounting for complaints about the components not fitting quite right and having to be bent (not true in my experience). There was no hint what order to do the assembly so you neither needed six hands to hold everything together nor got almost done but then had to take it all apart and start over because the last couple pieces were blocked. There was no hint to tighten the fasteners only until the wood crackled, rather than "all the way". And it was too easy to accidentally assemble the unit upside down (I did mine upside down _on_purpose_ to better fit my closet:-). Most problematic, it was awfully easy to cross-thread the fasteners and not realize it. The unit would go together anyway and everything would seem right, but the unit would be "wobbly". I suspect this is why some reviews say the units are quite sturdy while others say exactly the opposite. Taking care to avoid any cross-threading resulted in a "sturdy" unit ...but that's not something folks without handyman/DIY experience would know how to do. Bottom line: I canNOT recommend these to folks with virtually no assembly experience.
