One can get a decent roller ball for $5 or less, but without the pleasure of handling a fine writing instrument. I received the Scriveiner Black Lacquer Pen earlier today and was impressed by the elegance of its design. Its brass construction gives the right weight. The glossy lacquer finish and gold accents are first rate. The pen comes with a medium width ink cartridge (and a spare) which, together with the pen's capped design brings a formality touch. Highly recommended.

I have been looking for a high-quality writing desk pen. I leave it at my workspace, and the weight, feel, and smooth writing are so good that I bought a second one for my backup workspace. It arrives in very nice packaging and has a high-quality feel all the way through.

This is a beautifully crafted pen. When you don’t want to spend $500+ on a Mont Blanc, this exquisitely inscribed pen is a great gift. The package is lovely as well.

Update: The company reached out after seeing my review and sent me replacement ink free of charge. The new ink has been working perfectly with no skipping or inconsistent flow. I already loved the look and feel of the pen, and now I can fully enjoy writing with it. I really appreciate the company standing behind its product and making things right! I really like the look and feel of this pen, but the ink flow is inconsistent and it skips while writing at times. It’s comfortable to use and writes nicely when it works, but the spotty ink keeps me from loving it completely.

Love the pen, I use it every day. Its heavy which I like. Only downsize is that it dents and scratches very easily. And the pens cap has a slight shake or chatter to it since its not as snug to the pens body. Might buy again.

This is a beautiful inkpen. It writes smoothly, it's heavy duty and won't break easily, and is really nice to use. The colors are pretty as well. I have bought several, and may buy another.

This is a great pen. The weight is evenly distributed unlike similar pens which makes writing easier. I know it is a bit pricey, but after 2 weeks the quality is very good and appears to be worth the money. Does not feel cheap at all. I purchase separately Scriveiner blue ink refills 0.5. You should buy it and try it out.

A beautiful pen. Will it be mightier than a sword? I don't know yet. The pen has a good weight in the hand and is easy to hold. The ink flows effortlessly onto the paper and doesn't require any pressure at all. The metal feels solid and smooth in the hand. At first the pen seemed short but with the cap pushed securely onto the back the balance is very good.

Love the look and feel of this pen. I thought I'd ordered a ballpoint pen, my mistake. This is such a lovely writer it isn't being returned, I'm still ordering the ballpoint as well, that's how much I like these pens. Yes, you can buy cheaper, but I found they never really felt satisfying to use. If you love writing you really can't go wrong with Scriveiner pens, this really is a case of you get what you pay for. That said, the price is very reasonable for this quality anyway.
