I was hesitant to purchase this because of some negative reviews, but decided to go for it and am quite pleased with everything. I have a few pieces of advice for anyone considering this, especially if you're new to doll modification like me.First- use the awl provided to enlarge any existing holes in the doll scalp. It seems time consuming and unnecessary, but after reading about all the broken needles, I didn't think twice about it and I think it made a HUGE difference in how easily the tool worked.Second, if the chuck doesn't seem to hold the needle securely, try poking a small- and I mean small- bit of nonslip shelf liner down into the tool and try tightening the needle again. It worked great for me!I also highly recommend watching a video or two about how to reroot doll hair, the advice for using the tool and specifically the way to hold the hair was invaluable advice!

First of all, I ordered the 10-pack but only received 6 needles. It's only a dollar difference, but still. The big needles are fine, but the small needles do not fit in the holder/grip that this kit comes with. Obviously rerooting is a difficult job and it is normal for a couple of needles to break, but I broke or bent all 6 of the needles in 2 days, which has never happened to me before. The small needles were nearly impossible to use, and they kept slipping out of the holder and stabbing me. The only good thing about this kit were the two awls included, which I will keep using. Unfortunately though, I'm not satisfied with the quality of the needles and the fact that they don't fit into the provided holder.

The tool part is good, might need a tools to tighten the thing tighter to hold the needles inside but other than that it’s good. Now the reason I give it three stars is because the first day using it to reroot a Barbie head for my sister’s Christmas gift the smaller needles broke and the bigger needles were too big to finish the doll so I had to break a sowing needle that I had that was just too small for thread and use that, which worked so far. I do suggest that if you buy this product maybe buy some sowing needles or use sowing needles that you wouldn’t care if you broke just incase your needles break 🤷‍♀️. But other than the needles breaking it’s pretty good, but don’t take my word because I might have just been using it wrong or it could be different for everyone else . :> bye bye .

The tool was great at rooting my Chucky’s doll hair

Metal piece used to hold needles is too big to actually hold any of them. Will most likely break needles rerooting hair, especially using yarn.

I thought the sturdy design would allow me to load the needle.I could never get the needle in the cross mechanism until it was sturdy enough to use. It felt like the mechanism to tighten was worn or spent. I don't know if mine was defective or just shoddy craftsmanship. I ended up purchasing a cheaper one on another site and it worked perfectly. So buy at your own risk.

Practicing my rooting techniques and this set is perfect for my needs.

The collet of the pin vice provided does not fit the needles included as is. Needs to be adjusted with a set of pliers.

Well, it works. Get a pair of pliers to bend the chonky silver bits to be a bit smaller so it grips the needle.Everyone will break needles doing doll hair. This is a good kit for people like me, beginners. It rooted (😂) about 3/4 of a Barbie ripoff I got, so that's always a bonus.A warning: wear stab and slashproof gloves - this hobby is sharp. The awl is pokey and theres needles. Extra needles are available on Etsy.
