My Writing Companion Through the Years
I have used these pens for more than 25 years. They are great. I even give them away as small gifts, people really seem to like them.

Always ready to go, for all kinds of paper
We all hate grabbing a pen that doesn't work - especially these days, when the only reason most people grab a pen at all is because they want to quickly jot something down. Typical ballpoints are completely hit-or-miss in this regard, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, sometimes they work for a few seconds and then fail or fade out or become gunky at the tip. Not so with the Precise V7. I've been using these (or the V5, which has an Extra Fine, instead of a Fine tip) at work for months have never had a case where it didn't work the moment I put the tip to paper. I have never picked one up and had it come out dry, not even once. The flow is very consistent - you aren't likely to run into problems with fading or smearing on this one. I write in all-caps and find it to be quite suitable to my purposes. I don't typically use these for long-form writing, only notes, so your mileage may vary if that is your use case. Generally, if you want a pen which will always be ready to write, it has to have a completely sealed cap - no holes, and no clicky-pens. This fits the bill. If you want something which can make fine, clean lines, this is what you want. If you instead want more exact lines, with more control over the flow, I recommend the V5. I purchased a 12-pack of each and left a pen in all the places I'm likely to need them at home and work, with plenty to spare in storage. Would recommend.

Worth the search
These are my new go-to pens for writing and even a little sketching. They are the sole ones I care to use. If you're someone who still actually writes and cares about pens, I recommend them.

Only Pilot lovers understand..
I.. I am.. I am a pen snob.. There I said it.. I just HAVE to have nice pens in my office.. in my room, the kitchen, my purse.. Pretty much everywhere.. I need a pen that is smooth like buttah. I need a pen that has such a fine point, I can write in all caps on a spreadsheet that has cells with a .15 height. I need a pen that is effortless to hold because.. let's be honest.. my hand cramps easily and I just cannot deal with that kind of negativity in my life.. This pen.. this pen is so good that it spans generations.. Yes.. generations.. My father used these pens ALL the time when I was growing up.. In fact.. rare was the day I DIDNT see him without one. At the time.. my feeble little mind could not possibly comprehend the differences between a Pilot and a BIC. I thought a pen was a pen and that was that.. How could a pen be better or worse than the other.. Oh how naive I once was.. I am awoken now.. I have seen the light.. This is MY pen now.. not my father's. The torch has been passed to me and how honored I am to be in the presence of gods. Yes.. I said it.. The experience of using this pen is otherworldly.. Serene, peaceful, powerful, and bold all at once.. Anytime I see someone using this pen.. I just stare at them with a knowing look. Our eyes meet for but a moments glance... But in that moment.. when the world melts away.. I have seen their soul and they have seen mine. We are pen lovers.. bound by the ink and fine point tip.. So scandalous, I know.. but you wouldn't.. you just would NOT understand.. How could you? How could you possibly understand.. You use.. well.. you use.. a BIC.

Enough ink in the barrel that lasts and lasts. A tip with the fineness that allows you to form well defined characters but also with the smoothness that helps cursive writing. And priced just right that it’s not agonising if you were to lose it

I used to previously swear by the G2 gel pens, but these are way smoother and require less pressure. The ink in these is water based rather then gel based, so the properties are a lot closer to those of fountain pens then ballpoints. (I have refilled empty V7 pens with fountain pen ink, and they work almost just as well). This means that these pens are SMOOTH writing, especially when held at a slight angle. They seem to have a sweet spot position, where the line it lays down is thicker then 0.7mm but writes a lot smoother. Find the angle that works best for you.(This same sweet spot also exists on the V5 pens, but not the retractable v5/v7s from my experience). One of the downsides is that you need to have good quality paper, otherwise the pen feathers just like fountain pens. It also bleeds through to the back on some paper, so you may only get to use 1 side. On the other hand, if you use non-absorbent paper, they write great, but do smudge, as they take a while to dry. The capped version of the V5 and V7 seem to write better/smoother then the retractable versions as well. Overall, the smoothness rivals that of fountain pens, and requires a lot less pressure then G2s to write especially if you can find the sweet-spot angle where they glide without pressure (to be clear, you still need to press down, unlike with FP's, but these were good enough to convert me for in-class use for note taking). If you like the G2 but want something even smoother and requiring less pressure, or you're sick of pressing down on pencils, give these a try!
